very nice ride nandanrp. maybe everyone near the chicagoland should have a little meet and cruise day to downtown, and we could all snap a few near the field museum.

I'd definitely be down for a weekend meet and photo session, maybe once it warms up a bit!

Thanks for the complements everyone!

I want to re-read parts of my photography book so that I know how to better expose the shots...a lot of them came out over/underexposed today because I was shooting in full automatic (primarily because I only had a few minutes to shoot before people would start harrassing me to move!). I hope to get better quickly!

Chicago has some awesome views, it's just hard to find spots where the view is unobstructed.

I stayed at a Holiday Inn downtown a year ago one weekend while I was apartment/condo hunting, and they had that amazing (and nearly unobstructed!) view of the river and the Loop. Glad I was able to snap a few pics, but the Holiday Inn people were pestering me to move

Thanks TRM! I need to read the big manual still (not the pocket guide ) and re-read portions of my book so that I know what the best settings are for each lighting scenario

Living in downtown Chicago, I have no garage, and no tools to really speak of. Fabio (Rev) graciously offered to help me with changing my car's oil, because 1. I wasn't sure what dealer to go to in the Chicagoland area, and 2. He doesn't trust any dealers in the area. I have new reason not to trust the dealers as well, but I'll get to that in a moment. So I ventured out to the 'Burbs for the afternoon...

Fabio's hotness, white/gold 2004, on Pinks...damn I need some

Since I had a very knowledgable person on hand, I figured I would get Fabio's help to install my recently purchased Defi Oil Pressure gauge as well. Also, as most of you know, I was waiting until the oil was changed before I reflashed to Cobb AP Stage 1. Unfortunately, Fabio got called into work for an emergency, so we didn't have time to attack the Oil Pressure gauge. Just for reference sake, here are the installs we'll be following another weekend: http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...aru+oil+galley and http://homepage.mac.com/jsalicru/GaugesHowTo.html

The AP reflash went smoothly. I followed the directions in the manual, made sure not to touch anything while the reflash happend, etc. It was done in about 20 minutes. Quoting Majin, my car is now "50% cooler"

I think my boost gauge (OEM) reads low by about 0.0075 to 0.01 MPa (Between 1 and 1.5 psi) because it used to show 0.095 MPa (13.78 psi) at max boost in 4th. Mind you, 1 psi is like a needle width on the OEM gauge. On the ride home I was hitting around 0.09 MPa (13 psi) in 1st and 2nd, and around 0.105 MPa (15.2 psi) in 4th, 5th and 6th. If my gauge is indeed off by as much as I think it is, I should be hitting about 16 psi. I need to read live boost on the AP and see what I'm getting. I might try the Stage 1 93oct HWG map if things are looking ok.

Now. The oil change. I wouldn't normally bore you guys with the details of an oil change, but after the front end plastic guard was out, we were both a bit surprised to find this:

Why was it surprising to me? Well, we've known about the defective white filters for a while (SOA Recalls new 15208AA09A Oil Filter). It's been official since 10/12/2005. I got my oil changed (by Hodges Subaru, a Dealer I trust!) on 11/23/2005, and they used the defective filter! It was well over one month after the recall!

I switched to synthetic on my last change, and my car was consuming it (about 1 quart in 3000 miles). I thought it was the oil (Royal Purple 5w30), but now I'm not so sure anymore. You can see the plastic shield has quite a bit of oil on it...

Anyways, I'm really glad that I check my oil basically every time I fill up. Just be aware, those damn leaky filters are still out there....

Thanks!

And thanks again for the help!

I can't wait to get my car cleaned this spring...I'm taking a few days off from work, driving back to my parents' place in Michigan, and getting the car up on jackstands. Then, I'll thoroughly clean both sets of wheels and get two solid coats of wheel wax on all 8... Wash the car, polish, and wax. It'll get dirty on the trip back to Chicago, but oh well...
