| Spec C Club | Well, I've been checking on-line resources. The best I can find is this: "Now that you're an expert on gasolines, you probably would like to know where to buy and store the stuff. If you are fortunate enough to live in the mid-Atlantic states, you can take advantage of Sunoco's GT-100 Unleaded retail pilot program and get 100 octane race fuel at pumps located at select Sunoco stations. The rest of us have to purchase from local speed shops, at race tracks, or directly from Sunoco distributors." I believe that this is the stuff I've used in the past. Next time I drive by I'll check it out. The pump for the race gas is out amongst the regular pumps, but it's much smaller. This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2002 Trader Rating: (0) | No race gas afaik is only a higher octane fuel. High octane fuel in an engine not designed for it will just not burn as well. The higher octane fuel is actually less combustable than lower octane fuel, which means you can run more compression which will give more power. It's not like NOS. |

If you run 91 octane, adjustments are made to compensate, thus avoiding predetonation. The same applies for 100 octane which will not predet so easily and the ignition and the valve timing are adjusted to make the most of the better fuel. Race cars generally don't have cats, so they don't mind running leaded fuel. That is why you have to be careful that you are getting unleaded. You don't want to ruin your cat. | |

| Junior STI Driver | You can go to just about any airport can buy 100LL (100 octane, LL==Low Lead). 100 unleaded shouldn't be uncommon, I think it only gets leaded after about 110 or so? Quote:

| Junior STI Driver | Woke up this morning with 925 miles on it and i was determined to finish the job today. Got to 1000 this afternoon and took it for a whirl. WOW is all i can say. I have been babying it, keeping it below 4000, using small throttle openings. This afternoon i let it loose to about 6000 and did not even floor it. The acceleration is kind of scary. The engine below 4000 is still pretty zippy but above 4000 it is amazing. the sound of the engine gets better too. There is some really cool sounding intake noise and it growls a lot more. Anywho, I am going to set the rev thingy to 5000 and still try to take it easy for a couple more thousand miles. I jacked it up yesterday and looked underneath it just because i was curious. The struts have RA LH and RA RH on the part sticker. I did not realize they put the RA type suspension on the sti. Also, I have a quick question. Mine seems to idle at about 600 rpms. Anybody elses idle at this speed? |

| Spec C Club | Check out this thread: http://www.imprezawrxsti.com/postnuk...ewtopic&t=1643 4MLA1FN posted pictures and one of them was the dashboard while the car was idling. Looks like 600rpm is idle. |

| Lurker | the first line off idle is 500rpm... the 2nd (smaller) line is 750rpm... the needle is sitting just over 750rpm on the pic of the white car. there's no real use for the tach to register below 500rpm on most modern automotive 4cyls as the engine would not go in that region under normal operation |

| Junior STI Driver | I took all four of my wheels off yesterday to clean and wax them. Hopefully the wax will help keep the dust from sticking so badly. It took like three hours. I took a pic to imortalize the moment. Also, get your sti's alignment checked. I went back to the dealer today and go mine checked because of the steering wheel being a bit off. The tech said both of the front wheels were pointed to the left. On the print out the toe did not look like it was that off that much, but the steering wheel is on center now and it seems to center itself a little better. Just an fyi. |

IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2002 Trader Rating: (1) | Idle is spec-ed at 700 rpm +/- 200. Octane has no bearing on the pinging problem. Read through the threads about this in general and powertrain if you'd like to know more about it. |
