Default WRXGuyInUSA's '08 WRB STI

Time to get this rolling!

I bought my '08 in May, and it is my 3rd Subaru I've bought since I was 18. My first was a 2002 Bugeye WRX, which was my first real introduction to Subaru, Forced Induction, and modding cars in general. My second was a 2006 Subaru Legacy GT, which the wife drove. All have been great cars!

The bug-eye was my first Suby, and will always have a special place in my heart! After YEARS of mods, and 10's of thousands of dollars, I eventually ended up with a complete JDM V7 STI converted Bug-eye. Tranny, engine, drivetrain, brakes, cluster, the whole nine yards... added the Chargespeed kit and custom paint, wanting to enter some shows. Entered a few, won the ones I entered, lost interest in shows. Here's what it looked like when I sold it:

Then it was the '06 Legacy GT, after my wife's Jetta GLI was stolen. AWESOME car! Comfortable, fast, fun, and economical. Didn't do too much, except black-out headlights, and tinted tail lights. Turbocharged Subaru's were never better! Awesome daily driver.

Then... my darker days. Sold the V7 Bugeye because I was moving to CA and it wouldn't have passed emissions... bought a TL Type-S. Wife got sick of the stick shift in the LGT, and we traded for a BMW 328i. I missed my Subaru's! Every time one drove by, or when I heard a boxer rumble, I wished I was driving one. The FWD in the TL-S started to REALLY annoy the crap out of me, and made an otherwise awesome car, not so fun to drive. Traded the TL-S after 16 months, and bought the '08 STI.

My first impression with the '08:

After having a bugeye and a LGT, I realized the '08 STI was the perfect mix! It had a LOT of the comfort and styling amenities that I LOVED about the LGT, but had the sporty nature of my V7'ed 02. It truly was, the best of ALL worlds. Fast, fun, comfortable, and offered utility! Then... realization!

I was diggin' the new car, and loving the new features and comfort. Then I tried a few highway pulls... D'oh! 3rd gear + had the worst hesitation and stumbling after 4500 RPM I've every experienced! It was definitely pulling timing, and just felt like I was hitting walls. Called the dealer, and they pretty much told me there was nothing I could do but add the AP. So I added the AP about 2 weeks after buying the car. Loaded up the Perrin AP stage 1, and instantly became a believer QUICK. The car ran SO well, it was ridiculous! I was laughing and smiling ear to ear the first time I drove it.

Well, that was fun... but as always, more is needed!

Took the car to HB Speed and had Jon and his guys add an Invidia catted DP, and had the car Pro-Tuned. Results:

292hp/326tq @ wheels

Gained 60whp and 65wtq over stock!

(to be continued)

-Matt

I need to dig some up. My online photo server I used for pretty much everything, is down and has been for months!

I hope it's just temporary!

I decided to enter the ITN Midnight Rally a few weeks ago. It was to be a 12-hour Monte Carlo style event, starting at 9PM, until 8:30AM. I found a co-driver on the NASIOC forum that was looking for a driver, and it was set!

Had an AMAZING time... the car performed great, despite having to re-flash it mid-race because I had a far too aggresive map loaded for the high elevation we were at. Definitely made a big difference having a car that handled so well, and had a great amount of power.

We ended up taking 1st place in our class, and also had the lowest score overall. (Pics Attached)

Nice I much rather have the 08, not saying the REX was not nice. +1 for the WRB Crew, actually +2 for you since your bugeye was WRB as well

I'm MUCH happier in the '08, than I was even in my V7'ed bug-eye. It has everything I wanted in an STI, and DOESN'T have everything I hated!
