Very nice work!

When I came across this journal, I was interested in the painting process, as I will be re-painting my second car myself. Would you mind listing the steps you took, if you got a sec? This is what I got so far:

1. sand car/bondo with 100 grit
2. spray rust inhibiting primer
3. sand, 150 grit?
4. spray urethane primer
5. sit in sun to bake 2 days
6. sand 240 grit
7. sit in sun 1 day
8. wetsand 600 grit
9. paint, several coats?
10. polish or clear coat?

Thanks, I will see if I can get the exact method from the guy who is doing all the work.

1. Sand any surface that needs body filler with 80 grit.
2. Sand filler with 150 grit finishing off with 240
3. Skim coat(metalglaze putty) over body filler, sand with 240(fills in any deep sand scratches and imperfections from filler)
4. Sand the rest of the panel with 320 grit and wipe down with wax and grease remover.
5. Spray 3-4 wet coats of urethane primer
6. Sand primer with 400 grit wet and make sure everything is nice and smooth and there arent any primer lines.
7. Wipe with wax and grease remover and then a static control cloth.
8. Spray 1 medium wet coat of sealer
9. Spray 2 medium coats of base, let flash then sand out any dirt nibs or imperfections with 1000 lightly, wipe panel with tack cloth and spray 3rd wet coat.
10. 2 wet coats of clear and let bake/dry
11. Wet sand entire panels lightly with 1500 grit and also sand out and tiny dirt nibs in the clear.
12. Rub with rubbing compound and buffing wheel, followed by a medium grit compound then polish and wax.

Its not as simple as it seems and i really dont reccomend doing it yourself if you dont have much experience. Especially if you want quality.

The process we are using is more involved than that list. I will try to post up all the details when I have them.

oh there is no doubt at all that its more involved then that, which is why i stated its not as simple as it seems, also with painting and body work there are numerous ways of doing it.

Awesome, and thanks! I've done a tiny bit of body work and painting once before on the car, and learned then that it's not simple. It's my "beater" car, 99 tiburon, that got totaled from a deer last year, so I don't expect it to look like showroom quality. I'm doing it myself to save money, and to learn.

Paint has begun.... The steel blue mica looks awesome in person. The color looks like a gunmetal with a hint of blue. The color varies dramatically depending on the angle and lighting conditions. Here are a few different pictures of the hood scoop taken in different lighting conditions...

(BTW- this hood scoop has yet to be wetsanded/ buffed and polished)

That's a very nice color. I'm excited to see the end result. When do you think it will be done?
