Default VC's....05 WRX Project

Welcome to my 05 WRX project....

Background:
I've owned a couple cars before this one; a 1990 Merc Benz 300E and a 1999 Honda Accord 2dr. Mainly nothing was done to either car except for thousands in audio. I did most of the work myself, well what I knew or thought I could do. After getting bored with Honda I decided I wanted something with a little more power and grip in the snow. June of 2007 I bought the Wrx with 33,xxxx miles and with the only mod being a greddy type-rs bov. I went with the 05 because I wanted the peanut or blob head lights. The reason I didn't go with a STI is because of mainly money and also I hate the blue interior of the STI. I like the carbon look of the wrxs interior better. I kinda wish I bought the 06 WRX with 12,xxx miles for $18,000....was a much better deal than my car but then again the only thing I wanted in that car was the 2.5 liter engine.

First To Do......Summer of 07 and Winter of 07

Hid Fogs
  • 6,000k hids for the fog lights with the DRL disabled and also the relay to run the lights independently
  • took around 2 hours and was a pain to figure out....didn't totally do the correct relay and blew about 20 fuses before figuring out I had to cut one wire
Tail light tints
  • I bought them off a member on Nasioc but don't remember who it was. It was pretty straight forward. Just peel and attach. They only cover the clear section and it perfectly fits. I didn't go with the full tail light tint because I wanted something a little different than what most people do. People even say that they can't tell where the tint begins.
  • hints: take your time. clean the area before putting on. use a credit card to minimize bubbles.

APS BPV 50/50
  • Finally got rid of the crappy greddy type-rs bov. Went up to FIZZ autosports located in Queens NYC.
  • Picked up a 50/50 which works well. Some people dont' think their good but so far so good. I got it screwed all the way in so most or all of the air is recirculated back into the turbo inlet

Looking nice, and congrats! One word of advise, get rid of the APS 50/50 BPV and put a stock one on there. The car will thank you for it. Read the sticky sections or do a search and you will find out about a BOV for stock engines. Where is NJ are located, we should meet up.

New parts.....December 2007

Invidia g200 catback with stiffer hangers
  • Took about an hour to install because I didn't have jacks all I have are ramps
Perrin Short Ram Intake (black)
  • Installed in 5 minutes but was sooo excited I put the MAF sensor on the wrong way
Defi Guages and Controller
  • Took about an hour to install...i did it right before a meet actually
  • Recently redid the wiring due to a bad connection. At first thought I killed my guages b/c the controller turned on but the guages didn't. Ended up calling Fizz auto sports (located in Queens NYC). They told me my guages were prob shot...cried a little then figured out it was only a fuse....the fuse was located in the engine bay and was the ILLUM fuse
  • Painted the guage pod myself...want to repaint it soon due to OCDs
Sti Hood Scoop
  • Great story behind the painting of the scoop. Will write at a later date due to my comp ending my internet last time i wrote it

Custom Airduct......March 2008

Custom Airduct
  • First thing I did was sell my hids and fogs...and picked up some STI covers
  • Then I cut one apart and added a metal screen to it
  • Next was paint....did a ok job with spray paint (going to be redoing it soon)
  • Then sprayed the duct black which is ducting for a dryer
  • Then placed the duct into where the foglight would be...then pulled it up to the engine bay and zip tied it down
This is not my car nor the custom fog cover but this is exactly what I did....I will have pictures of it soon

Shift Knob.......March 2008

Shift Knob
  • I recently just picked up a JDM STI Limited Shift Knob. I don't know if I like it or not. But for now its better than stock.
  • The only thing I don't like about it is that it sits higher than the stock shiftknob
