Well I installed Neodymium magnets to hold the trunk lid up as others have done and it works beautifully. I like it like that.

Just arrived... a Recaro Speed seat waiting to go in...

(The two spots you see are dirty spots on the camera lens, not the seat.)

I tried sitting in them and they are tighter around the hips than I expected. I don't think they're so tight that it'll be a problem for me. But I can definitely see how some of the bigger drivers out there would want some wider seats than this. They feel just about perfect for me around the shoulders and such though. By the way, I'm 6'5", 170 pounds if that's any measure.

The side bolstering is obviously narrower than the stock seats, but more than that, the bolsters are also much, much bigger than the stock seats. So it's going to be a completely different experience sitting in these and going around corners.

Just weighed the seat. It's 28 pounds according to my bathroom scale. And the stock driver seat is 47 pounds. So I can expect around 19 pounds weight savings, depending on the weight of the stock bracket vs the Wedge Engineering bracket. I'll be sure to weigh all of that as well when I install it just to confirm that.

Installed!

Details here:
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/interior...installed.html

By the way, as it turns out I only saved 6 pounds with the combination of the seat and bracket & slider. Apparently that 47 pound figure I read before was for the stock seat with bracket & slider, not just the seat like I thought.

Thanks, and I'll see what I can do. Need to get the car cleaned up.

As for the magnets, I bought a couple 1" x 1" x 1/2" neodymium magnets from this site...
United Nuclear - Neodymium magnets
(I'm pretty sure there are better prices for neodymium magnets elsewhere than what you see on this site, but oh well.)

I believe it was Rodent who originally came up with this idea...
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/exterior...gs-needed.html
He has some pictures in that thread showing where you need to place them and such.

Each one has a holding strength of 54 pounds. And depending on how you "install" them you may get less holding strength than that. But in any case, it's a piece of cake. Literally I just stuck them in place and lifted the trunk lid, and "thwap" -- the trunk lid sticks when lifted all the way.

It's a bit unconventional, and the trunk release in the car doesn't really do much when there isn't any spring tension to help it out. And... if you're not careful you can still slam your head, arm, finger, or other extremity in your trunk. But uhh, just don't do that.

Thanks, I have a few new ones with the APR GTC-200 wing installed...

Once I saw that the end plates had the APR logo painted on them, I knew I had to do something about that. Then it came to me... paint them blue.
