Default Waktasz's 08 DGM STI (A Stock autocross build coming soon)

Yes my camera sucks, and there's no mods yet, but I had to get started somewhere. Soon to come: 18x8.5 Volks, 285/30-18 rcomps and a big front sway.

Coming soon...

Nice color. Are the sways available yet for that car? What is the diameter of the front sway now?

Interested in seeing how your AS build goes. I have an 06 competing in AS and and am really interested in seeing how well the 08 does.

Have you thought about FSB and dampers yet? As posted above, Perrin has an FSB and few others have some too, but not sure if they're "big" enough??? Tires are easy - no reason to go with anything but 285/35-18s!

besides the fact it's too tall. by alot.

I'd suggest 285/30/18, it'll shorten the extra long 2nd gear up some and give crazy Grip.

waktasz, you picking up those Volks?

We're planning on 285/30s and probably ce28ns, yes. I wouldn't call 2nd extra long though, it tops out around 55mph. Third pulls pretty well after a shift at around 50 or 55 mph though. Teaching myself I have to shift out of second now might be a little tough early on .

Driving impressions...steering is heavier than my 06 WRX. I actually like the seats. The car feels more solid and composed than the WRX and it definitely pulls way harder all the way to redline but it doesn't have the surge of torque at 3500 rpms that my WRX tuned for ESP had. Driving with a smart center diff and a front diff is definitely new to me as well. The front end seems to do some different things that my WRX never did, so that will take some getting used to too.

everyones favorite Autox'r tom hoppe once said "the WRX rear wheels just got pulled around" (he said it better but still).

The first thing i realized when I autoxed my STi was it honestly drives itself, and it takes alot of skill to really drive the STi at it's peak. Driving an STi fast isn't hard, but at it's peak takes balls.

I'm really interested to see how the 08 does in AS especially with an experienced driver, keep us posted.

what are your clearances looking like with the stock wheels?

do you have an experience tire guy to mount those 285s on an 8.5" wheel?

i've found lots of people refuse to do it since the 30 side wall is a ***** to work with.

I know some local Soltice GXP guys running 285/30s as well as 295/30s on 18x8 wheels without too many gripes from their tire guys. I don't think getting them mounted will be a problem. Getting them to fit without ripping the fender off will be the hard part. I've seen 275/35s already and they fit, so hopefully the shorter, but wider 285 will work too.

I'll try to get some measurements of inboard and outboard clearance in the next couple of days so I can start crunching the numbers and decide what tire really will work.

it's just so wide! 04-07 STIs in AS are going to be hurting!
