Subscribed... keep me updated buddy... im very curious... because I plan on either an 06 sti... 07 limited... or 08 hatch... in the near future... would like to see what your impressions are!! Thanks!

Thanks guys, at lunch I called Cobb headquarters directly and the tech guy was very helpful. He told me that all the STI´s sold elsewhere (not in the U.S.) had a "world market" ECU and that the AP they had was no good for my STI . He said that maybe Ecutek would be able to help me. What do you guys think or know about them .
Thanks again

QUOTE=ret030;1714591]Is it just me or does stage 2 not look as impressive... I mean... of course it will probably be faster than previous years because of the new setup... but stage 1 gets 12%/19% increase... and stage 2 gets a 15%/24% increase over stock... seems like either stage 1 is more impressive or stage 2 isnt as impressive?? or am i just drunk?? hahaha

Does that mean that maybe the exhaust isn't as restrictive as previous years?! Could it be a better downpipe design??

Anyone's thoughts... ???

Tell me if I am being dumb... hahaha

In contrast... stage 1 is 13%/17%... stage 2 is 19%/35% diff over stock in the 2007s...

From reports I have seen the new 08's are putting down more wheel horsepower than previous years... so maybe I am just crazy here... wouldn't mind hearing some opinions though... just something to discuss...[/quote]

The turbo is the limiting feature on these cars. I agree, the difference in power between stage 1 and stage 2 is somewhat less impressive than you might expect as stage 2 is double stage 1 right? the truth is that most of the potential of this motor/turbo/intercooler is available with a full stock exhaust in place. I could have detuned the stage 1 to make more difference with stage 2 mapping. However, the better approach is to tune to the safe limits of what a given motor and fuel will allow.

I've tuned several stage 2 (full TBE) cars that have gone back to the stock exhaust because the noise did not pay off in a lot of extra power.

Over time we might learn things about 08s that will change these impressions. For now, the best bang for the buck is an 08 sti and a COBB AP. Add a downpipe and you've got a complete package.

Best regards

Wow... thats different...

I have always loved the boxer rumble though... so the stock catback isn't really that restrictive then? I have to admit... the WRC car that I saw at the Detroit Auto Show with the two dual 3 inch exhausts was the hotness!! But I guess the quad tipped exhaust isnt that bad... I cannot imagine me having a quiet subaru!!

Thanks for all the opinions... keep them coming!

HAHA... guess that just means I have to upgrade turbos then!!

With the AP, Is "I mode" basically untouched? I read varying opinions, but I believe I read its only a slight boost (less than 1psi). Do you guys have any opinion here? I'd like it if it was relatively unchanged because my SO also drives the car and I think shifting around a big power surge as seen in S or S# mode would annoy her. If I could just say leave it in "I mode' then all is good. BTW, I would just do stage I to start, and maybe, if there was compatible programming later, do a airbox to get a little more intake noise into the ****pit! Thoughts?

You may be drunk, but you are also correct. Stage 1 is so impressive because the factory tune is just that UNimpressive. The reason Stage 2 isn't that big a jump from Stage 1 is because the stock turbo reaches the limit of what it can flow. The less restrictive exhaust would potentially allow for larger gains, but a bigger turbo would be needed to take advantage of that potential. Despite that, it's still a nice gain, and the torque increase is significant.

As someone else stated, the best bang for the buck for this car is the AccessPort and a downpipe. A cat-back will add a little more power, but it's a small amount of gain for the money compared to the AP & DP mods.

The accessport is the tool that flashes your ECU..... stage 1 is the map.

(Just my humble opinion--when I purchase my 08 STI, I'll take the $2000 they want for the BBS and purchase rims on my own)

Nice car btw.

This is still my favorite 08. If I get one it will be like this.

Loving your car man, I'm getting an 08 AW Base STI next week sometime and hopefully also dropping the stg1 on it shortly afterwards. Yours is so beautiful and your photography is hot too!

Quick question, how much did the dealership tinting job cost? I'm planning to rock the same job I've got on my 05 right now... 20% all around w/ a 5% strip on the front windshield, but I'm not sure if I should just have the dealership do it or go to a local shop again.

Thanks man, take it easy!

yet, why would i want one of those DP's that tapers down below 3inches?
then you have to get a different DP when you go full TBE/3inch?

it seems that at least Cobb so far has again made a tapering DP.. which i do not understand.
