Just got my winter wheels and tires put on (pics on post #2)....the Avon tires are MUCH more comfortable than the stock Potenzas...with the sacrifice to dry handling of course!

I will post more thoughts on the tires when I rack up some more miles.

Default Re: 2004 PSM STi - APS / Pioneer AVIC-D3 / TurboXS / JDM Pink Springs / EQ Tuned

Just put on some Sumitomo HTR Z III tires, JDM pink springs and fresh alignment. I hadnt done any mods for a while so this will keep me happy for a while...until I start jones'n for something new

After much debate and research of the Sumitomo tire, I decided to give them a shot (I figured even if they were garbage, at least it was cheap, they are only $95 in 225/45/17!) They did great on tireracks tests (see below, they are up there with the Bridgestone RE050A pole position) and get good reviews on multiple car forums, not just Subaru but Bimmer and RX8 boards as well. Now that I finally have them, Im glad I choose them...they are obviously not the RE070s but honestly the 70s were a bit harsh/overkill for me. The HTRZ are comfy, grippy and the price seals the deal. I've taken a few of my favorite backroads and they hold on well (especially with the addition of the springs). Once I put a few thousand miles I will post more thoughts (I only have 500 miles on them right now).

I'm also happy with the jdm pink springs (still on stock struts), they eliminated a lot of the 'floaty' feeling I had before on the stock springs....the car feels much more planted and firm. The ride quality isnt bad at all, in some cases it feels nicer (albeit, firmer) than stock. However, I have noticed on some portions of road it can be a little bit bouncy (but much better than stock!).

Now that I have springs/tires/alignment - Im wanting sway bars....it never ends....
