Default Stock Seats

Ok, i see some people have the same problem as me, i have a 2006 sti, im about 5'11" 195 lbs. i slide around on the bottom part of the seat alot. i want aftermarket seats, but dont want to lose the airbags for safety reasons. i got to thinking after riding in a friends VW GTI and the leather seats in his car have huge bolsters that hold you in tight.

ive also seen the aftermarket seats people put in and the bottom portion have bigger thigh bolsters i guess you could say. my butt slides around alot, and im curious, has anybody ever taken their stocks seats and had them modified by a interior person and made the thigh bolsters higher/bigger? i figure it would be cheaper to do that then get brand new seats and taking turns and sliding is beginning to annoy me. has anybody seen anything like that yet?

i modded the inside of my STi seats. I used that insulating pipe foam stuff, sliced it longways so I had a narrow strip of the 0.5" thick stuff and used industrial strength double-sided adhesive tape to secure one strip in either rib section of the seat back.

it works very well, cost me nothing, and holds me in place much better, makes the seat feel more like a race car.... now I just have to make it stop bouncing so much

yup. theres a huge thread on it in this forum somewhere, search for modify stock seats and you'll find it.

I did the foam (didn't even use the adhesive as mentioned above, just stuck the foam in there) and it feels 100% better.

There are also some folks that streached some of the springs in the bottom of the seat so that the bottom would be a bit deeper, this might help you as well since you say your having more problems with the ass area than the back.

I'm 5'10" and 189. I fit just fine. Oh wait, it must be the Fobus paddle holster on the right and then Fobus clip holster on the left. Not as comfortable as foam but sure works well.

A lot of aftermarket seats have these foam bolster things that you can strap on the side for extra support.
