i absolutely hate cruise control. i never use it, probably never will. i also always bump it with my knee whenever i have to get in or out of the car. the bottom line is that i want it gone, at least the control lever. is this possible and has anyone out there done it to thier STi?

Are you kidding? I use mine all the time when on long trips. Thinking of the location, how can you hit it with your knee? I am sure you can just remove the lever if you really want to. You have to be the only person I heard of that hates cruise so much.

Default RECOMMENDATION on guages

I also hit my knee on the lever, but I catch it while cornering. I was concerned until I realized that there is just a single screw holding the lever to the post, and a cable that runs up inside the post (probably for the on/off switch). I like having the cruise control, so I'm going to unscrew the lever and secure it to the bottom spoke on the steering wheel while autocrossing/tracking. I would guess that you could snip the wire if you want it gone that badly...

Welcome Rick!

You could cut the wires and crimp in male/female blade connects. That way you could reattach the cruise control stalk for the few times you'll ever need it. Eg. roadtrips trough Kansas. :P
Just be careful you have enough slack wire to get the connects crimped on. In tight spaces I use a small pair of needle nosed pliers for crimping.
Good luck

I never use cruise either but won't go to the extent of ripping my steering wheel column apart.

Thanks, M! I've been lurking for a little while now, but found a place to finally jump in!

I hadn't thought about crimping in connectors so that I can just remove the entire stalk--much better than trying to tie it to the wheel (probably safer as well). I'll certainly take a close look at this possibility over the weekend...

I have the same problem.. although I would use it on the highway.

But I constantlly am hitting it with my knee...I would like to move it or something before I break it off one of these times getting in or turning. (it hits my knee a lot unless i'm paying attention and make sure not to hit it)

Default Do it myself?

I wonder if all of the wires/logic in the stalk could be moved to a different set of microcontrollers that would fit in a smaller space, such as an empty button beside the IC Spray. The microcontroller/inputs would need to be able to do : on/off, accel, cruise, instant off, decel and whatever else. I think it's possible (for an EE out there)

odd... i've never hit it on my knee, let alone getting in and out of the car. and i also like using it, so it works out nicely. i must not be driving hard enough. odd.

my legs are super long is probably why i'm always hitting it. I'm 6'6". if they were a couple inches shorter I dont think I would ever hit it.. mabye I should cut my feet off.

Actually if anyone has any ideas how I could make my seat go back even farther let me know..that would solve it all..exept for whoevers trying to sit behind me.

Ditto here... I'm at 6'4" and am guessing that only the taller folks will have this problem. Like you, if I'm thinking about it I can force my knee to avoid the lever; while the problem is annoying on the street, I worry that it could become dangerous when autocrossing or tracking the car. Although I test drove, and test fit the car with my helmet, I didn't notice the issue during the test drive...

Thats so strange that you guys are bumping into that lever. I am 6'3 but I NEVER hit my knee on the cruiser control lever. Not even once. Maybe you guys should try adjusting your seat down and raising up your steering wheel.
