So 8 month after the original thread has been posted, does anyone have any new information on if the 05 air bag will fit and plug-in to a 04 steering wheel.

Someone told me that the 05+ wheels might even be thicker than 04's, I couldn't tell by looking at them, even in person

but yeah, I'm still looking forward to get rid of that ugly grey peice in the steering wheel, one way or another

I saw an 04 with that piece painted black and it looked really good. Just paint it!

I have an 06 and 04 wheel. The 06 is def thicker. This is because if you look on the back of the 04 wheel there are ridges that conform to the drivers hands. There are no ridges on the 06, its all solid and therefore thicker.

I'm 99% sure the 05+ airbag cover will bolt into the 04 wheel. I'm not positive though. If you really want the 05+ wheel buy a Spec-C take off wheel ($300) and sell your stocker to someone with a WRX. Should end up costing you alot less then buying just the 05+ wheel. Be aware though if you go with a Spec-C wheel you loose your Crusie Control.
