Well I finally did it, got the clock mounted in the ashtray since i've got the dash gauge pack. it was actually easier than i thought, just had to file down the tabs on the side and it fits right in nice and snug without anything to hold it in.

Here's the install...

Since my gauges were port installed i didn't have a clock to begin with and had to order one.

file down the tabs on the sides so that it'll fit in the ashtray slot

Pull up the trim around the shifter by prying up on the edge behind the shifter

then undo the two phillips screws below the hvac controls and pry away the radio trim peice

there are three screws under the vents you'll have to unscrew to get that off

after that's off, reach back and find the clock plug. mine was behind the vent and ziptied to that black and white set of wires. i used another ziptie to keep those neat and tidy after freeing the clock wire

cut away the electrical tape to expose the 4 wires going to the plug

i used these crimp connectors to extend the wires down to the ashtray, but if you're handy with a soldering iron, more power to ya

here they are coming out of the ashtray and attached to the plug

if you had some different colors of wire it'd probably be a little less confusing, but i just did one at a time so i couldn't screw it up

then just plug the clock in and push it into the slot where the ashtray used to be, should fit nice and snug

Enjoy!

Great write-up! I have been searching for a clock solution for my 05 STi for months. Thanks for the effort.

for all the smokers who actually use their ashtray, there's another writeup on how to put the clock in the coin tray in front of the fuse box. but i don't think it's as visible down there

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=521

that's where i got the idea to put it in the ashtray. really you could probably put it anywhere you want as long as you want to run wires there
