Somebody out there has my old 02 wrx...(silver, bugeye,) if you floor the gas and hit the rear defroster button, you will turn on the ecutek stage 2 map on the car. With ecutek, if you floor the gas and hit the rear defroster, you would switch between maps.

I was just thinking the other day that the defroster on my '04 STi was sub-par.

On the other hand for an 07 that POS of defroster at least should make some scars in the ice. I'm debating if I need to take to the dealer or just follow the wires myself with a voltmeter!
Take it to the dealer, particularly if you are still under warranty. Rear defrosters are resistance heating elements; you may very well get strange voltages if you try to read them with a meter.

My '05 rear defroster does what I expect it to do; it melts lines in the ice, and loosens it, so I can very easily remove it with a scraper. I'm not sure if that is consider "weak and frail" or not but it gets the job done for me.

Well I don't drive mine in the snow but I noticed when it cooler out and damp the rear window takes a long time to clear the glass. I always attributed(sp?) it to the STI's thinner rear glass. I thought the rear defrost had to operate at a lower temp so as to avoid the dread rear defrost blow out!!

I was definitely wondering if it had to do with the thinner glass and possible lower defrost temps. Not like I can see anything but a park bench out the rear window anyway. Side mirrors ftw.

my 06 melts it just fine. I think you should have a dealer look at it.
