Default Aftermarket Seats

So I have been searching for about six months for a good set of seats for MY04. I figured I would get some feedback from you guys of what would be a good seat. My back is killing me for when I go on long drives. I don't do that too often but when I do, my back is dead after an hour and a half. I am 5'11" and about 195 lbs. I have a 34-36 waist. I really liked the recaro speeds and had a chance to sit in them (thanks erock!) and they are a bit tight on my hips. I was wondering if there was anything similar but maybe a little wider. Yes my fat ass is trying to lose weight. I have lost 25lbs over the passed year . My budget with brackets and sliders is around 2K. Any suggestions? I think Brides are awesome, but might be out of my price range. The status seats are pretty hot but don't know anyone around the philly area that has them.

ps- please don't give me the airbag concern. I have always driven a car without the side airbags and I understand what can happen without them.

pss- I would like the seats in either black/blue or just black. I could always trade my interiors with an 05 WRX to get the matching color.

thanks for all the help in advance.

don't the recaro speeds come in an optional "larger" size? Sounds like that could potentially be a perfect option for you.

i have a set of sparco torinos and they are quite cozy. i am too like a 34-36 waist, the leg bolsters are lower so you dont have to worry about leg room.

Do they have to recline?

I'm eyeballing the Cobra Imola GTs. I'm a big guy 6'4" with a medium build, so normal racing seats are somewhat painful. The Imolas are fixed back and lighter than stock. And they come in a black w/ blue scheme. The GTs are wider and taller than the regular Imolas. They're a little over $500 each and people seem to like Cobras. However, I don't think I've seen Cobra seats in an STI, so I don't know if that because they won't fit (which I doubt), or if it's just because they're a smaller company and not well known (I think there is only one distributor in the US.)

I'm still trying to get answers, but you may want to look that way. I think they havea recliner that will also fit the bill. But either way, you're coming in well under your budget and getting a good seat.

I am not sure. But if they do, I am sold.. They were extremely comfortable on the back but just a tad tight on the hips.

I would prefer reclineable especially since I take long trips a lot.

In that price range, if the Speeds don't fit you I'd find a set of Evo takeoffs. They are not as supportive but they offer more room than the Speeds. Sparco's reclining seats have never felt right to me, too narrow and not enough bolstering. One thing I have found with my Speeds is that the thigh bolsters kind of stretch out a little over time and create more room. Not a lot more, but there is a slight difference.

I am a huge fan of fixed back seats, but for this situation, I would recommend the Recaro Speeds. Good stock replacement seat IMO.

That was my original choice but they are a bit tight on the hips. I dont know if they have an XL seat but if they did, i would love them.

Any other suggestions.

If you want a more roomy fixed back there are lots of options. Recaro Pole Position or SPG XL, Sparco Evo2, Sabelt Titan XL...the list goes on. If you've ever sat in one of the fixed back Porsche GT3 seats, that's the same shell size as the Pole Position, and very close in size to the SPG XL.

Unfortuntaly I have never sat in a fixed back seat. My biggest fear is they would be unconfortable during long drives. Maybe I will have to see if anyone has any seats in the philly area that are fixed back.. But thanks for the options.

Recaro Sports.

Or Evo takeoffs if you want something cheaper, as they're knockoffs of the Sports.

I think the Speeds come in 3 sizes, and of them is XL. I remeber looking at them a while back and during my research I found different sizes. However, this was a while ago so I am not sure if it was the Speed's or something else.

I sat in a Recaro bucket for about 4-5 hour drive and it was pretty comfortable. I don't remember which model but it doesn't really matter because I'm much smaller than you. Just try sitting in as many seats as possible before buying one.

To add to BoostJunkie's statement of Speeds stretching over time, it is true. It was pretty damn tight for my huge thighs when I first bought it, but it's stretched over time a bit and I feel a lot more comfortable. I drive between VA and OH w/o any complaints. If I ever sit in the passenger seat, I can feel that the bottom bolsters are really tight because most people who sit there are pretty small so the seat hasn't stretched out.
