I pay 2300$ for 6 months. They will not let me pay monthly for some reason.

ummmm it sounds like a lot of you guys are paying a s**t load for insurance. I seem to be ok with what I pay. I'm not sure if it's high or low or in the middle but for having had 2 tickets (only stop sign violations) living in Northern California and only being 2 when I bought my car, I was paying $180 a month. Now that I'm 24 and have no points on my record I'm only paying $130. If I can keep this up and make it to 25 I hope it gets cheaper still. The best part is that if I went to an STi my insurance says they will only charge me another $20 for the "upgrade". Now I will admit that I pay a $1000 deductible. I figure that if the car is damaged so bad that I have to pay more than $1000 I'll use insurance, if it's less than $1000 I rather pay out of pocket and keep my rates down. In the long run I'd save money by paying out of pocket. To me insurance is lost money either way, if you have a clean record you still pay something, if your record is bad you just pay even more. Either way you aren't getting it back.
I did want to mention that I agree with a lot of the guys on here who shop around. I'm with Liberty Mutaul and I full coverage because I financed the car. I heard AAA and a lot of those bigger (more realible) insurance companys are better for people with assests that they can lose. I don't own a house, I don't own land or anything that I am afaird of losing. Why pay more to protect items I don't own. If I get sued the only thing they are getting is my car... and obviously I just wrecked that, they can have it, haha. My point being is get the right coverage for what you are needing and not just take the first offer that is made to you. Insurance shopping is still shopping... shop around.

If its less than $1000, it wont affect your rates.

Irrisonsible. If you get sued for not having enough coverage, they can certainly do a lot more than just take your beat up car. At the very least they can dock your wages, and DESTROY your credit for not paying a court decided debt. Good luck with your future.

i agree with you FLT. fixing it yourself is better than making a claim. making claims bumps up your premium.

all insurance companies offer HUGE incentives for higher deductibles. they want to avoid claims! they want to help out someone (lower rates) who is willing to pay for bumps and bruises up to the deductible limits. I roll with $1000 on my STI and BMW X5, and i just bumped up my HOMEOWNERS deductibles as well.

it makes me drive more chill - kinda.

Not true. It completely depends on how much the claim is for. Some insurance companies it is $1000, some $1500... simply call up and ask. They all have a set dollar amount. Above it can affect your rates (ususully very veyr little) Below it, and it does nothing to your policy at all.

If I had a $700 job to repaint a bumper, I woudln't hesitate to make a claim at all knowing it will not affect my rates one tiny bit. That is one advantage of having a low deductable like I do.

I am in the same boat as you with USAA. I was run off the road by a tractor trailer and 4 points were added to my license. It's about 380/month until the points drop off next December. It's worth every penny as far as I'm concerned!!

I just got my car registered and insured yesterday. I have State Farm. $250 Comprehensive and $1000 Deductible. I'm 31 and I'm paying $52 a month. Man, with those payments, I could be modding my car to the max. LOL....

you need to read my post first captain. i think we're saying the same thing.

what I'm saying is that if you make a claim it can/will affect your premium. if not right away, after a few of them the INS company will raise your rates. there is no arguing that. not only is there a chance for a slight increase in your premium, but there is a chance (after several claims) that they drop your policy completely.

if your deductible is less than the cost of your bumper ($700) if would make sense to make a claim for it. if your deductible was $1500, then it would make sense to pay the $700 out of pocket and forget about filing a claim.

well mine through 21st century was going to be $499 a month, lol no lie... they suck! but i fished around and right now it's $249 a month, doesn't help that i'm only 20, on my own policy (no parents to help out)... i think it will drop in a few months when i get the california good driver discount, hehe (btw, i have no tickets on my record whatsoever!)

I agree with you in that point of view but I'm basing my ideas off the "avg." person. People don't sue for "not having enough coverage" most people sue when they see a chance to come up on something. People sue others because it's like the lotto to them. Personal opinion anyway... Yet I agree with you at the same time.
