along the lines of insurance.

What would insurance companies say if you damaged your car doing a track day/ autoX? Would they pay for the damages if you have comprehensive coverage?

Would you need to inform them that you do these kinds of events when they insure you?

i am definitely no expert in this field.. however, a google search found this link: http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:...nk&cd=14&gl=us

where a person comments in this forum:
"The insurance that the SCCA offers is primarilyu medical and liability insurance for the participants and organizers. It is not collision or comprehensive coverage for the participant's vehicle.
http://www.scca.com/Inside/Index.asp?IdS=18D9BB-C95A3C0&x=...

Most car insurance companies will not cover damage sustained during a timed or competitive event."

the scca link is off... here's what i found on scca's website: http://www.scca.com/documents/insurance/2007%20Sponsor%20Packet.doc (word document). but it seems the person is right. participants get med and liability, a quick glance didnt show any collision...

I live in Alaska and I pay a little under 500 a month. Clean record and great credit score. Don't understand why I'm paying that much.

good question. there is a very large gray area with this question. if you are involved in a "driver education day" ie: with an instructor. they may cover you. it might be easy to show that an instructor was there during your track day. i went to an event at streets of willow with "street trials usa". they had a beginner group that was out there with an instructor. this, in most cases, should be covered. but, if you are in an all out bumper to bumper race, then probably not.

however there is an easy solution. Non admitted companies (like Llyods of London) offer a "racer" coverage that will cover comp/collision/liability coverage for your race days. the premium is determined by the number of races you plan on being a part of. the premium, last i checked, is somewhere between 2-3K/year.

yes that is on top of your current premium.

expensive? you might think so. but at least you get your coverage during your track days, unlike most guys that are out there.

also, for the record, "Comprehensive" coverage will only cover you for things that happen to your car while it is not in motion. Collision (or upset of vehicle) is anything that you hit while you're driving. Comp (comprehensive) covers things like flood, a tree falling on your car, vandalism etc etc.
RAS.

That's the insurance companies way of saying: "You aren't actually insurable. But hey, if you want to pay it... bend over!"
