When I first got my STI, I was 20, and it was $350 a month....but I also had quite a few wrecks on my license...

after they all my fault accidents left it went down to 135 for the STI and Jet Ski, the ski is only like 20 something a month

Now I bought an 1999 Legacy for DDing, and it didnt change a bit lol, the STI was lowered a lot, and the legacy wasn't bad.....now I am 22 and it is $135 a month for the 2006 STI, 1999 Legacy, and 2004 Jet Ski, full coverage, and max coverage on everything....

Holy sh*t. I was having trouble understanding just how so many young people were getting insured on Impreza's. Browsing through this thread I paid more to get insured on my first car (a 1.1 L Peugeot 106) than most people here do on an Impreza. At the time I was 23 and the insurance on the Pug for 12 months was just over £1200 (around $2400).

Insurance is the only thing holding me back on an STi now. I can afford the car (looking at an '06 model) and the running costs, but the last insurance quote I had (and bear in mind this had dropped considerably in the last few weeks) was over £5000 (which I think would convert to about $10000). Bear in mind I'm 26 now and have a clean driving license, and that was looking for a limited mileage policy.

Just goes to prove how mugged off we're getting in the UK I guess!

I'm 34 Married and pay $775 for 6 months for my 99 Maxima and 07 Sti. Its really not worth being young and paying ridiculous premiums for insurance.

30yo, Male, Married, clean lic history, 06 STi, 59$ a month for the car with progressive. that doubled it from the 55$ a month it was to insure my 2000 civic and 98 geo prism. total for all three is 114$ month.

I remember when I was in my early 20s paying 170$ a month in insurance for a 1992 Porsche 968.

alot of clean records in here

when shopping for insurance a few helpful hints...
  • most company/states underwrite credit score... if your credit is great DO give your social as it will help out your rate. if your credit is not so great, decline your social... that should keep the rate from being adversely affected.
  • try to stick with a company for as long as possible, a lot of times you get persistency discounts. and some company/states underwrite for that as well, if you show loyalty that may reflect positively on your premium.
  • with the above in mind, dont let your insurance lapse! one day you're paying $X.xx/mo... after you lapse and try to come back your company/agent will not offer you the old rate, nor will their competitors.
  • coverages, try to avoid the state minimums... example here in ca the requirements are 15/30/5 (bi $15k per person, $30k per accident and pd $5k per accident). if you smash into a $25k car, that $5k pd you have wont cover it. and you guessed it... some company/states will underwrite this as well, they look at your previous coverages and use that to determine your responsibility level or something... i forgot the full details so having low limits on your prev insurance may affect you adversely.
i hope this helps guys!

oh, $100/mo on my 05' sti
