Anyone experiences an increase in his/her premium? The increase has nothing to do with my driving record which is clean. GEICO, my auto insurance carrier, told me that they collected more data since STI was introduced back in June 2003 and determine that an increase is needed based upon frequency of claims and cost of repairs.

Man, I am now paying $100 more every six month. Although this is about $20 or less a month, I still feel annoyed because it is not my fault.

Seems like what you would expect from an insurance company, especially Geico. =)

i don't know about that... no insurance company is your friend
i occasionally shop around for difference insurance anyway, and always when my rates go up. there's always another insurance co that wants your money

Default Soon to be a STi owner..

I just switched from Geico to Allstate. Geico is a ripoff these days. For the 2 cars (STi and 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT), Geico was $2200/year, and the Tib was actually a little bit more than the STi (both were around $550, STi a little less, Tib a little more). With Allstate, I am paying $1400/year (STi now a little more than the Tib). So, Allstate dropped my STi insurance about $400/year.

Default Buy in Canada, bring back to states. Possible?

Just got my bill from GEICO... i'm $100 more per 6 months b/c my dad got in an accident with the STi. My rate is now 800 per 6 months for both my cars, so seems fine to me... still cheaper than anywhere else i looked...

It is a basic insurance fact. If claims trend upward then rates will go up too. An insurance company does not rate you as a specific individual driver. It is all based on how each Company feels you fit into the assumptions that their rates are based upon. Certainly, age, location and make of car all contribute to where you are going to fit into their rates. The only way rates will go down is if the actual claims experience of all STi's is less then what the actuaries assumed.

That's not entirely true. . . it really depends on the insurance company.

I'm with USAA (as is most of my family) and they're lower than most. . . statistically, they insure a mass of drivers more responsible than the norm. However, they're more likely to drop someone if they have too many infractions or accidents, as well. Their claims are quite good, though. . . had to file a couple in the 16 years I've been with them, and I've yet to have a problem.

Sucks if you're not (or your parentals are not) military or retires military, though. They insure only US military and dependents (even after leaving home, I might add.)

GEICO doubled my rate for insurance on the STi while my rate for the '04 Forester stayed the same.

Default Can't open trunk with inside release

State Farm originally quoted me $1700/yr back in October before I bought the STi (clean record, full coverage, Bay Area$) then raised it to $1900 in November. Ba$tard$.
