I had USAA for my Integra, but when I bought my STI, my rates were going to go up ALOT. I'm with GEICO right now and will switch again when the rates get too high

GEICO Allways starts low and gets higher. I lose a few of my clients each year for about 6 to 18 months, then they come back.

goodquest: Why do they do that? It seems that a steady customer would be better than one that goes back and forth alot :/

There is probably some statistic that shows that the longer a customer is with an insurance company the more of a chance they have of making a claim. Therefore they try to get as much money as they can, raise the rate so you don't want to stay with them, and since they never had to make a payout they keep everything as profit.

I don't know. Insurance in Canada is a fing scam. The industry made 2.6 BILLION in 2003, which was the year they were crying for assistance from the government. That is a 700%-800% increase in their profits from 2002. The government was duped and it ended up costing us up the ying-yang. Now we have ridiculously high insurance rates in Ontario.

To get clients, they charge below market (compared to their competitors) to increase their client base. Then they increase their rates realizing that they will only lose about 7 to 10 % of the new clients Per year. Once they lose their target percentage, they will start to drop their rates again.
However the rates never drop down to were they were.

Most of the major companies do offer longevity discounts.

Default Got mine but a few Questions!

I received a quote from Progressive a few days back for $450 every 6 months. Anyone know much about them, are they pretty good?

Default How to install a 4 pt. front tie bar?

I just completed an online quote from State Farm (our current provider) for $250 CDN / month for our Civic and future STi (though it was quoted for a 2004.) That would make it $20 / month cheaper than what we pay now for the Civic and RSX. State Farm seems awesome. Hopefully they learned their lesson from that debacle of theirs a few years ago.

Here is a question for you guys:

What kind of deductibles do you feel safe with? Personally, I'm going to put the STi as a "pleasure" vehicle (which it will be, I work from home) and have a $50 comprehensive and $500 - $1000 collision/upset.

I had Progressive after my record got kind of "tarnished". They were not cheap but they were one of the few that would take me with decent rates. After a few years of clean driving I switched for a lot better deals.

I carry $1k deductables. The premiumes are cheaper and I feel, why pay for something, a lower premium, you might not ever need or rarely need? I figure I will just pay when the time comes with a higher deductible. I found out the hard way that it is not wise to claim every litte thing cause it can come back to haunt you down the road so I would rather pay for anything under $1k out of my pocket.

USAA is great! I pay a little over $900 ever 6 months for a 2001 honda civic, 2001 honda CRV, and 2004 STI. Full coverage with 100 comp and 250 collision.
One of the many pluses of serving your country.
