Exclamation OMG WTF Insurance Cost!?!

Okay, I know it's a sports car. I'm fully aware of that fact. I know what I pay now (about $95 a month on a 2001 Explorer 2dr). I'll preamble this by saying, with the requisite knocking on wood, that I have 13 years of clean driving behind me. No tickets. No at-fault accidents. Not so much as a parking violation. I was 17 years old when I bent my last fender, and only 16 for the ticket.

I just got a quote from AIG on the phone not five minutes ago. For $309 a month... !!!

When I came out of my coma, I woke up on the living room floor. AIG is a little higher than I already pay on the Explorer through GMAC. Yeah, GMAC. It's Detroit. Coincidence? Anyway...

Jesus H. Tapdancing Chr1st on a STICK! There is no way on this Earth that the Explorer is a "safer" vehicle than the STI. Sure, it has the SUV size in its favor, but... Short wheelbase & high center of gravity, RWD, only two airbags and a luke-cold safety rating from both the NHTSA and IIHS.

The STI? Five stars, baby. Five stars.

Even though I knew it'd be expensive (MI is a no-fault state, so it's higher anyway), I never fathomed it would be more than three times what I pay on the Exploder. Anyone care to recommend a good auto insurance company? Maybe get reasonable rates for a single 30 year-old guy with a ridiculously clean driving record?

If I can't get that down a bit, I'll be saving a little longer to equalize the monthly outlay with a lower car payment...

Do a search in Off Topic. A number of people have been shafted by insurance and have found good deals with other companies. Check it out.

Farmer's - 80/month here for insurance on STi. 25, married, good credit, and have all my other insurance (home, life) through them.

$700 a *month* for car insurance? I think I just puked up a squirrel. And died a little inside.

Note: Why would insurance be in off-topic. This is STI related... Sorry Mods! Please move with my apologies...

Get quotes online ..progressive, geico, then go back to your co. with the numbers. I'm saving about 1k/yr because i did this, they want to keep your business.

i'm paying about 190/mo. which isn't bad for an sti.

I pay $155 a month for State Farm. Pretty good considering how I am 19 with a good record.

I pay like 311 a month but I am not 25 yet almost there in 6 months and I had a wreak like two years ago still on my file. USAA said my insurance will go down like $600 every six months when I turn 15 so I will only be paying around 200 a month with a wreak on my record.
