Default Took Insurance off the STi today

Well the idea was to do this in Dec. but it has been relatively warm here in CT and I kept saying next week. Finally did it today and I am already sad. Agent said I would save about $200 over the 2 months I plan to do this and of course I am keeping Comp. for safety reasons. I daily drive my Dodge Ram R/T anyways and the amount of sand on the road right now is killing me! I am hoping to do a few mods while the car is garaged:
-JDM tail light mod
-clearing headlights (maybe)
-FULL wheel detailing (with wheels off)
-Tanabe GF210 installation (cutting a bit off the front bumpstops)
-Tophats or camber plates and rear tophats
-Sparco Clubman harness
-Whiteline 24mm front swaybar (thanks TiC)

Going to be busy this winter and March can't come soon enough! Anything else I should put on the list? Anyone else take insurance off off for the winter?
-Eric

Nope i wouldn't even think of it. This is the best time of the year to drive the Suby. It's good that you are saving money to have some fun time with mods and such though!!

That's weird. I heard that you have to have full coverage if the vehicle is not paid in full yet. Is it?

Depends on the state that you are in.

Apparently not in CT...I had to explain that the car would stay in a garage the entire time.
I know, it was a tough decision but I'm going to give it a try. If I change my mind I can add the insurance with a quick phone call!

Actually no it doesn't depend on the state you live in. It depends on the lien holder (bank, credit union etc.) I guarantee that if you looked at your contract with the financial agency that loaned you the money, you have a gauarntee that you will carry full coverage on your vehicle. This way they are guaranteed that they will get their money of the vehicle is stolen or totaled. More than likely the insurance company will notify your lien holder about you dropping your coverage and they will send you a nice little letter about reinstating and if you don't they will get coverage for you and charge you an outrageous price for it only causing the principle of your loan to go up. NOT A VERY GOOD IDEA.... As far as the state goes, the only thing they care about is if you have Liability insurance to cover the the damage if you are at fault. They could carfe a less about your vehicle. Hope this helps clear things up before you get in trouble.

In maryland if you do not own the car the bank wants full coverage. I went to Iraq for 7 months and had to pay insurance on a car that did not go anywhere!

Okay. This is better. I always thought that full coverage is required because your lien holder needs the vehicle to be covered no matter what so that they can get their money in case something happens to the car. If it's not and something does happen while you only have comprehensive, who knows what your lien holder will do id they can't get their money. Safest bet would be to leave full coverage on. I know that it may be A LOT but that's what we gotta put up with to own our cars. May cost you more later. Better make sure with your holder first. Could potentially save the insurance company money if something does happen 'knock on wood' and the car's not paid off and doesn't have full coverage.

Mine's been off the road since mid November.
They use salt here in NY on the roads and it'll do a real number on your paintjob.
I'm sure the STi is a blast to drive in the snow, but I'll never know.
It could have the best handling in the world in the snow, but it's not me I'm worried about, it's the other people on the road.
People see a snowflake and **** thier pants around here.

The few months my STi is off the road will only make me appreciate it more come spring

Wow, I had no idea that I could get in trouble by the lein holder if I didn't have full coverage. Its not the money, if I needed to save $200 I wouldn't have an STi but I'm like pt518sti and don't drive it in the winter much so I figured that maybe I should save the paint and get started on some projects. Anyway I will check this out with my agent ASAP. Thanks for the heads up talleyd!

I see you want to add a harness to your car but don't list a roll cage

that is a dangerous thing to have.

Most tracks I can think of wont let you run one without a roll cage for that reason.

Harness + No cage = death trap in an accident.

get a CG-LOCK if you want to have something holding you in the seat a little better

A bit of bling from just having a harness isn't worth the risk....If you have to have one you shouldn't force that kind of risk on your passangers so just get it on the driver seat... atleast then you wouldn't be killing your passangers with your desire for bling.

You're crazy! I'm in North West CT and I've been having a BLAST this winter with my STI. I have Pilot Alpin 2's on a spare set of STI BBS rims.

I know, I am crazy! The truck is great in the snow but doesn't compare to last winter when I had the wrx and snows. Maybe next year.

As for the harness, I know the possible dangers of using a harness without a rollcage and I accept them. Thank you for the warning, everyone should know these issues before they make a purchase like this. This is for AUTOX ONLY where there is minimal risk of a rollover. I do have a CG lock and I will experiment with both pieces of equipment this autox season.

I basically just took collision off my policy so I figured I would be ok but I will check about issue with the lein holder.
