I travel quite a bit and brought this up with my agant (Allstate). She actually was the one who brought it up. She said to try it when I was gone for a month. Insurance has to send a notice to the lien holder that coverage was changed. If the lien holder doesn't say anything about it your OK. If the lien holder does say something about it then just put it back on. no big deal. It will probably take about a month for this whole process to take place so at least you'll save 1 months worth. She has done this with other client and has found it really varies with the bank (lien holder). But she also said that just because you were able to do it one time doesn't mean you'll always be able to do it. Every time will be a new adventure.
Now if you ask the lien holder (bank) first, they will obviously tell you no you can't do it.
For me when I take everything off except comp, it work out to about $100/mo.

Hmmm...thanks Dan. I'm going to see how this plays out. Its only for 2 months but if the lein holder won't let me change coverage then I'll add some more rock chips to the front of my car .

OK, spoke with the insurance lady today and she said that it does depend on the lein holder and if they specify that they want full coverage she will put it back on right away. We shall see. On a side insurance OT note: I was told a funny story about an insurance company who insured a Carrera GT but put it in the "computer" as a boxter! So the guy wrecks the GT and requires fender and wheel replacement. The insurance office is frantically trying to think of some what to blame the policy holder even thought they messed up. Now they have to repair a $450,000 car instead of a $50,000. The insurance agent thinks that the GT "has a fiberglass fender" and needs a special dealer for the part . Ya think!?!?! Oh boy, head are gonna role! End OT.
