When I was 25 I told my dad about all the things I did when I was younger. Taking his 58 corvette out street drag racing at age 14, top speed runs in his cars, yearbook photos of me 2 ft off the ground in his corvette.

I asked him if he was going to yell. He said no, quietly folded his arms and said, "I'm noting this down and I'm going to tell your son about all of this".

Ha.

Don

p.s. Your insurance is high because 18yr old single males have a habit of wraping their cars around trees and killing themselves and others. Its just a fact, statistically. That does NOT mean that you are that way, but many many 18 yr olds are.

By the way, if you live at home and your parents bought the car, i.e. you are their dependant, anything you do to anyone with that car is also their problem. So if you love your parents , be careful.

8k per year for insurance? That pays for a $40,000 car in 5 years. Invest in real estate, not in insurance companies.

I know it may be painful, but you need to wait a few years. Unless, like sciolist says, you have money to burn...

And you're complaining?

I just hope you take a track school or something to handle what the 330 can dish out. No STI, but still no slouch either. Windy city BMW CCA is really strong.

I've done 3 track schools to date, a solid intermediate student, and am still amazed at how much I don't know about car control. I'm 31 now, but at 18, I thought I was god behind the wheel, but I must have been a lot worse then I thought.

Going on a tangent here, but 18 and 300hp/300ftlbs is not a good combination.

(I drive a BMW 540 6-speed, looking at an STI next spring)

i agree w/ Datadatum. sounds boring, doesn't it? but how about this... have your parents help you with buying a less expensive but still fun car... wrx, rsx type s, (srt-4? that can get you into trouble too or something even cheaper, whatever will knock your insurance down a significant amount, and ask them to help you with a down payment on a condo or small house or whatever's available where you're at (assuming you're renting now...). if you own a home and have a couple more years' driving experience your insurance will be less, and you will be a safer driver. driving experience is not overrated.

but regardless...keep shopping around for insurance. i recommend spending a lot of time online getting quotes from various insurance companies. rates can vary drastically by company based on someone's situtation; a company that gives someone you know a cheap rate may not do the same for you, and vice versa. i frequently jump ships when my rates go up or i feel that i'm getting ripped off.

good luck

Would anyone care to explain to me why the STi is so expensive to insure compared to other cars. With a insurance symbol of 23, it is way up there. The Evo and 03 C5 Vette are still high, but come in at a lower 21. From reading about the STi and Evo extensively, there seems to be a slight older group buying the STi and the Evo is drawing in more of the younger crowd. I know there are quite a few factors that go into determining the rating, but everything just doesn't add up.

Default Bigger turbo question

I'm not sure what the "symbol" you talk about is, but I don't find the STi expensive to insure, it's actually $1 cheaper than my RX-8 on a 6 month basis ($1276 for both STi and my wife's Ford Escape).

I'm 18, no tickets, how much should I expect paying under a military company?

The salesman at the dealership said it'll be under a 4 door sedan, and it'll be cheaper than my mustang gt.

If you do not feel like releasing that type of information, I totally understand, just want to know what I should expect.

Sorry, but he is wrong. An 04 cobra is cheaper than my sti for me. And I only pay 100 bucks a month for the sti.

Call your insurance company to find out, that is the only way.

Do a search, this topic has come up many times. Everyone is different. Companies classify people differently. There is no way to base what you will pay on what someone else does.

DANG you guys pay a lot. I live in NY and have Allstate insurance. I checked out what an STi would run me, and it was $20 more every 6 months than the POS VW I drive right now. In total it would've been about $1500 a year with my wife's 2002 Escape.

I pay about 1400 for 6 months including my wife's jetta. I am in the Marines and have USAA though. Plus lojack also brought the price down.

1400 for full coverage and $100 comprehensive

I just picked up my STI from Irvine Subaru on Friday. It's amazing, my old car felt like a moped compared to this thing and I am not even going above 4000 I love it

Im 22 by the way
