Default 2.5RS & STi Swap Question

I purchased a motor swapped STi a few weeks ago. It was an 2002 2.5RS but was completely and entirely swapped with a hit STi's parts. I have no paperwork on the motor swap because the old owner couldn't produce them. I have the car insured as a 2.5RS. The title says 100xxx miles on it, which is how I registered it at DMV. The insurance papers show 40xxx miles since that is what the STi odometer says. Now, this isnt really a problem since insurance has the true logged miles on the odometer. My question though is as follows, since the insurance doesn't know I have an STi motor and that the 2.5rs is modded, will they cover the STi motor in case of an accident? Only reason I'm asking is because I paid $15,000 for the car which was a good price since it is a full STi swap but I just don't want to be out of a car and only get $3,000 or whatever KBB value of the 2.5rs is. Is there any way that I could put all of these mods onto my insurance policy? I just want to do anything possible in case of an accident that I would get the full value of the car.

I have collision coverage on the car (photo inspection) and don't want to be paying for it if im not going to be able to get any money back. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do? As far as insurance knows, besides the pictures, they do not know it is a STi motor.

Sorry, but if you want STi coverage you are going to have to pay STi prices. Call your insurance and explain to them your situation...I am sure they would love to take more of your money.

Wow, sorry the post came out like that. I copied/pasted from an e-mail I sent to one of my friends since I was too lazy to retype it all.

My only concern is the whole paperwork on the engine thing. Obviously my coverage would cost more since the STi motor is worth more but also having STi wing, etc I want covered also. I will be giving them a call and asking "if...then..." types of questions before I actually decide on claiming it.

You need aftermarket equipment coverage. I would suggest trying to get an appraisal and working with your agent or company to get it properly covered in case of theft or accident.

Bump for any more information on having no paperwork on the motor swap. Anyone in insurance able to tell me what they'll ask for?

bumping this from the dead...

I am in a similar situation... I have an 05 Wagon with full STi swap and then some... The way they explained it to me was that I could only register it as an STi if I had the vin changed to match that.

What this means that the car has to have a complete OEM STi swap, so VF39. dccd etc. that way they can match the old vin with the new parts.

I did not know this, and proceeded to add an FP green, aquamist, headers, etc... so no way it would pass as OEM.

I ended up sending my insurance all of the receipts and have them keep those on file as added value. My premium didn't increase.

I like the appraisal idea though, that way you get a real estimate on file in case something would happen.

My worst fear is that I get into an accident and they claim that the car I am driving is not the same as what they have on file, and therfore the insurance is void...
