Default My Auto insurance premium increased by $250 in 6 Months!

So I wanted to share this w/you guys to see if this is normal.

I have clean title, no tickets or accidents, only myself on the policy.
I've had esurance since I bought the car in May 07. My 6 months premium was $650 w/500 deductible &full coverage.

They just sent me an e-mail about my renewal for November and they want $900 for the next 6 months Policy.

$250 increase in 6 months is unheard of. I called them today and their excuse was that "all california insurance rate has gone up, it has nothing to do with you."

welcome to my club haha !
my insurance is due by the end of this month, $900 and some changes... 6 months ago was the same !
my 1st year was a little cheaper because i put the car at my uncle address and got a home discount ($700 for 6 months), i moved out last year and it went up like $400 more... then i took sombody's advice and changed my policy from "commuter" to "pleasure" and it helped me saved like $250

i'm 26, came in the U.S in 2001, got my license in 2002 and bought the car in October 2005, my title is as clean as urs but "farmers" told me it would've been cheaper if i had more experience behind the wheel... i told them, i was expectin it, if it doesnt hit the $2500/year mark -> i can still afford to drive this car haha !

i bet rates will continue to climb now that people can get STis used for cheap(ish) and drive them like idiots.

IDK about CA, but there are laws in the Queue in WA that will have a similar effect if passed. I am not impressed.

Yea they pretty much have you by the short hairs. You can shop around for another insurance company, but if they're saying it's a law then there prob isn't much you can do.

I WAS with Nationwide for 10 years.....bought my- STi and they went from $338 every 3 months to $479 every 3 months after 2 months of ownership...just like that. I have a perfect record and have a garage. They said there was nothing they can do.....I said there was something I can do......I shopped Geico ins and they told me they would do it for $239 every { 6 } months. Full coverage and $500 deductible.
I am with Geico now.....the Lizard is treating me well!

yeah RAS_STI is an ins. broker, right?

If he can't help you, try Mercury. I have full coverage and my 6 mo premium is just over $800. I called around for days. AAA was double that, Farmer's quoted me $5,000/year

yep, that's right JD i am a broker, and Mercury does have cheap quotes. in my experience i see all companies do very well in some areas, and then get killed in others. so every quote is a roll of the dice. I've seen low Farmers quotes too. Premium isn't everything though. it should count quite a lot, but there are other factors that i look for in a company.

second to rate (for my coverage) is service. do i have a standard guy to call if you know what hits the fan? or, am i a number in a field of numbers?

at the time of a big accident, you've got plenty of things to worry about. being able to make one call to someone and have them take care of everything is priceless. it's kinda like the difference between a Country Club for golfers vs. a city course. One they know who you are and treat you like you expect....the other - well - not so much.

it sucks when your company jacks up your rates and that's all they do. kinda like with Eric here. paying more and getting more (if it's worth it) is cool with me. but paying more and getting the same is bunk.
