Default Alpine 9815 and iPod Nano connection?

I am thinking about getting a 4GB iPod Nano and I want to connect it to my Alpine 9815 deck. I know Alpine makes an iPod control interface, but the box is something else I have mount and secure and its a bit pricy just to connect an iPod. I want something that I can "plug and play", such as a simple cable. Will this cable work with the iPod Nano and my current deck?...

The vendor just replied to a few questions I had about the eBay cable. It will connect the iPod and charge, but you still have to select and scroll through the songs via the iPod itself. Not what i'm looking for. If I keep my 9815, i'll just get the iPod interface, KCA-420i.

The cable you mentioned, kce-422i, is for 2006 Alpine decks that feature FullSpeed that is dedicated for the iPod. I got my eye on the Alpine CDA-9857 deck, which will be available shortly.

Are you modifying the kce-422i cable to connect ot the older Alpine decks?

I'd imagine that will work to get sound, but i'm looking to control and search MP3's via my deck. According to my local Alpine dealer, the KCA-420i control interface will not work with the newer iPods. Looks like i'll just hold out and get a new 9857 deck and get the FullSpeed cable to connect to a iPod Nano.

I'm using my Ipod nano with the KCA-420i no problem at all. Your dealer is giving you the wrong info.
