Right now I am trying to build a 14x12x30 inch box for my 12 inch Kicker L7.

Thats 3.2 cubic feet. Bigger then the box posted earlier.

Ummm....that's not infinite baffle. Infinite Baffle was a fancy term for "Free Air" subwoofers (meaning you created a baffle that sealed the front of the woofer from the trunk of the car and the hole trunk became the enclosure). What I think you are referencing was "Transmission Line or Labrynth" subwoofer enclosures, but this doesn't actually look like it is designed to be that either as a true Transmission line enclosure generally has the following characteristics
  1. Line Length has to be 25% of the driver resonant frequency wavelength (Fs)
  2. The cross sectional area of the beginning of the line has to be at least 25% greater than the radiating area of the woofer
  3. The line should tapered o that the last three feet of the line and the port have the same radiating area as the woofer
What he seems to have created is a typical ported enclosure and he just "folded" the vent to fit inside the box. Either way, that XXX is a massive sub that can take a beating. Nice choice, I will be sticking to 3 SX12's in my WRX however.

Yeah it is just a basic proted box... the XXX has some crazy excursion and I had to compesate with 75" of port length. The box is only 2.1 cu. ft. tuned to 33hz and it sounds absolutely pristine. Either way RE AUDIO FTW!

For a ported box, it's sure come a long way from the days when we'd cut a hole and drop in a plastic tube. I thought I knew my stuff until I came into this thread. Great stuff man!

And to some of you other posters, thanks for the great ideas. I'll be in the shop tonight playing mad scientist as I decide whether to run the 10" JLw6 or the 15" Rockford DVC from 94' (rebuilt in 00').

Between the two....the W6 is the superior sub IMO. If you're going with new subs, there are better for the money than JL or Rockford.
