Default Trunk Release module on 05 STi question

The Legacy alarm remotes have a trunk release button on them. I know that the remotes can be programmed to work with an 05 sti alarm unit. my question is, does the alarm unit on the STi support the additional trunk release button on the remote?

i did a search on wiring a trunk release kit on factory alarms but the only solution i found was to wire the second unlock press that unlock all doors to unlock the trunk instead. thats not the route i'd like to take.

as i mentioned, i have an 05 STi with upgraded factory alarm. just wondering if the alarm brain itself would be able to utilize the trunk release button from another subaru alarm remote.

^^ I don't believe so. You could get an aftermarket alarm and have a trunk release installed (I did this on my previous alarm) but there is no mechanism installed on our cars that would allow for automatic trunk open.

hey SVT, i'm aware that our cars don't have the trunk release mechanism, but if i bought one (a trunk release kit - comes with solenoid, wiring, relay), can i attach it to the existing factory alarm brain?

Hey dug this post up with a idea I came up with.

Do this mod to have the unlock button to unlock all four doors on one press.

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3077

Then this frees up the RED with GREEN stripe wire (used to be the unlock all doors) to trigger a remote trunk setup (relay, solenoid). So when you push the UNLOCK button on the transmitter 2 times within 5 seconds, the trunk will open.

Okay, who wants to do this first?! Please post a write up

i heard of that, but you have to get rid of the safety lever on the inside of the trunk.

I don't understand why the emergency escape handle has to be removed. The trunk opening solenoid pulls a cable to release the latch. You can drill a new hole in the latch for the solenoid cable.

IF SOMEONE DOES THIS I WILL FOLLOW SUIT. If no one does this in the next 2 months, it will be done by me. I loved that feature on my last car.

Staged door lock bypass mod complete.

At first, I tried jumping the two wires together just to make sure it was going to work before I went to the trouble, and it blew the door lock fuse. So, I replaced the fuse, bit the bullet and cut the red with green stripe wire and used a vampire tap to attach the harness side of the wire (not the little piece left with the plug) to the red one right beside it. Works like a champ. All doors unlock with one button push.

So with that said, if you can get a solenoid attached to the release in the trunk, you could do this mod and use the wire left coming out of the plug (red with green stripe) to trigger the trunk solenoid with the second button push.

Here's a crude MS Paint diagram of what I'm really saying:

subiru, at any alarm installation place they can install the selenoid to pop your trunk via the alarm. i think it just needs to be programmed to one of the buttons.
