IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2006 Trader Rating: (2) | Hey, So my alarm is starting to piss me off... the chirper only works when it wants to -- and its NOT my fault ![]() The reason I know its not my fault is because I sometimes hear half a chirp, etc., so I know that its trying...just sounds like a bad connection somewhere. Its not the chirper above the DP, but rather it sounds like its coming from the passenger side, between the grill and the radiator. Thoughts? Jesse This ad is not endorsed by this member. IWSTI Addict since: Oct 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Pretty common... the chirp module Subaru is a POS. Lots of complaints here and on other forums of them going bad. It's a small module behind the grill. Could try regrounding it like mentioned, but my guess is it's defective. |

| Grassroots STI Racer | I have has issues like this since day one. Not sure what is the cause. I gave up. Was not worth the risk of taking it in to the dealer. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 Trader Rating: (0) | Your chirper can be repaired. I just did mine yesterday. Remove the chirper, then crack it open carefully all the way around along the seam. I used a dremel to do this. Don't cut too deep. Slowly does it. After separating the halves you will see that the chirper device has a Red and Black wire coming from it and attaching down into some white goopy looking goo. The white goop is some sort of sealant or something but you must remove it. The two wires are actually soldered to the connector plug. At least one of them is loose. Give em a good yank and it'll be obvious when when pops off. But re-do both anyway. Now all you need to do is clean the contacts, bare some additional wire, and then re-solder. I didn't even need to add solder actually, just get the existing hot and push the bare wire into it. Done. After it cools plug it back into the cars harness and hit your key-fob. It should work if you soldered it correctly (...and a bad connection was the actual problem). I tack glued the plastic shell halves back together with CA, then sealed all around the outside with a multi- purpose epoxy. All done. Time taken = 30 minutes. Cost = zero. g |

IWSTI Addict since: Aug 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | i think mine is starting to go... it chirped fine when i got in to drive the car home, but when i got home i got out of my car, started walking away pressing the fob as i went, but i didn't hear the tell tale chirp. so of course, i turned around and started to press the fob repeatedly as i went into the manual checked valet mode and all that garbage. i got out and it chirped fine when i unlocked it, but had a VERY weak chirp when i locked it again... i'm assuming its about to go |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | the keys and the chirper are just straight crap in my opinion..and yes to the op..it isnt a big deal, but its very annoying when you pay 30k for a car and the key doesnt function properly |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I had KarrTrack Satellite tracking and Karrtrack alarm put on my car when I bought it. When i hit the FOB it always sounds my car horn. I wish it would do the chirp instead. I dunno if it the install guy wired it specifically to the horn or what. I'd rather have the chirp. |
