I've used the X50 for almost 3 years. I then sold it in favor of the 9500i which I didn't like and then returned that one and got the V1 which I've kept ever since.

Both units are very good.

Let's start with the Escort 8500 X50.

Smaller than the V1 and offers some cool features that aren't found in the V1 such as SpecDisplay (displaying the frequency of the band when you detect it), it can also measure the voltage of your car's battery. The main display has a bunch of different options you can scroll through, ofcourse you can disable bands of your choice, you can choose between red or blue LED display, you can hard wire the unit and when you buy it, the carry case IS INCLUDED in the price!!

The detection is very good with the X50, if you mount it high (better for radar reception) you'll do fine with X, K and Ka. I don't have a whole lot of experience with LIDAR detection using the X50 so I can't really comment on it.

The X50 is smaller than the V1, there are a few more buttons and the case is made of plastic. Doesn't really matter to me as a user.

Now for the V1. The V1 feels more "focused", there is no frequency display or car's battery voltage.......heck, the display itself is very very simple showing the mode, boggy counter, band....and that's it! You can disable any band you wish, which is nice. There are 3 different modes, I leave mine on full logic. There some cool programming features that the Escort doesn't have, like Euro mode.

Hardware wise, the V1 has a total of 4 antennas. Both laser and radar front and back. It's very sensitive and keeps on stunning me with its detection capabilities, even inside town.

The main unit's case is made of magnesium.

What I really like is the concealed display kit you can buy and make your setup stealth.

The carry case doesn't come as part of the package, for $400 I feel that V1 should include it.......

that made me lol.... but from what i hear it actually works to reflect lidar which can be a good and a bad thing. good in a sense that the cop can't get your speed but bad, because the cops gonna know you're jamming him some how. that is why those super expensive lidar jammers are supposed to be good because they jam and notify you when jamming so you can slow down and turn it off so the cop can verify a speed reading.

I'm currently visiting my parents in Seattle. I brought the V1 with me and we went on a road trip to one of the Islands outside Seattle. We drove around and got to Port Angeles and also drove around other areas.

What you find is that most small cities don't have the budget to buy new radar equipment, so they use the older K-band units, the V1 picked those up fast.

After a while, I started picking up the famous Ka, not only that it was instant on. It came in short bursts and was then quiet. Over a mile a way, I finally saw him, driving in the opposite direction. Most car mounted units have a remote control, so he was probably zapping people whenever he felt like it.

No Lidar was seen on this trip.

Yea that is the stuff. Is it legal? I imagine if it even gave you a second or two your radar detector would signal and you could slow down. Here is a link to a video. YouTube - Veil anti laser stealth paint coating

YouTube - Veil G4 Product Testing

I don't know about painting that jack on my new car tho

The guy said "it dosn't matter if it drips" as he failed in wiping off the black streaks on that white yoda

I don't really trust all these chemicals, so until they make a spray that makes your car invisible.....I'll just stick to electronics.

There's places were K band radars are too expensive, all they have are X

THOSE even though they are old, can be very dangerous most people associate X automatically with a false.

actually the metal case help shield emissions so it's harder to detect than most plastic cased units.

v1 shows X/K/Ka/L on either the main or remote displays. it shows strength, band, number of sources (bogie counter) and direction of the signal (as well as programmable mode you've selected).

Valentine One Demo - Now You Take the Controls!

V1 calls it "thread id" but it's a band indicator.

True, the problem with X bands is that it's much lower frequency, lower frequency bands have greater range and less accuracy so the signal tends to bounce all over the place and for greater distances.

I do this for security reasons, nothing screams more than a nice V1 sitting on the windshield. Plus in the summer, I don't want the circuitry to be damaged with the high temperatures inside the sun.

Your V1 will not be damaged due to heat or sun exposure. Unless I park in the ghetto, my detectors almost ALWAYS stay on the windshield. Haven't had a problem in 10 years of radar detector ownership.
