Has anyone had a problem with the accessory key not working? Is there some security issue with the 2005 that prevents another key other than the factory key from working?

I just came back from the dealer they have no clue. The key starts the car, then immediately shuts off. The factory key works fine.

Is there something I need to do to use the STI key?

2005 Sti's all have factory immobilizers. This will pretty much make that Sti key useless unless you get an aftermartket alarm with its own immobilizer.
I have heard that the new legacy keys can be bought with chips and coded at your dealership.
Goodluck with it and please let me know if you get it working cause i want to do this mod also.

As said by HenrysWrXSti the 2005 key has a chip in it. When you start the car the chip sends a signal to the ecu saying this is the right key. If the signal never comes the ecu will cut fuel and your car will die. GM has had this on a lot of their cars since 93 both my camaros have it. You will need to bypass this security feature to get the key to work. The dealer (if they even know how) will not tell you how to bypass their security. Your best chance might be to talk to aftermarket alarm installers. See how they bypass this feature when they install alarms with remote start.

Default Need some help with the vibration on rear parcel shelf!!!!

Sounds involved - not worth it to loose that security for a fancy key!
So, this key works no problem with the 04 Sti?

I had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with this same feature. In order to add auto start, I had to have an extra key made with the chip inside programmed to my Jeep (cost around $40 for the key). This key was integrated into the alarm. The alarm then had a wire that ran to where I put the key into (behind the dash of course). This wire had a ring that went around the key hole which basically enabled the alarm to send the key signal to the ring which tricked the ignition into thinking the correct key was inserted. This is similar to what you want to do. You would basically need to always be sending the signal so that your non-encoded key would work.

I met a Circuit City installer with an 05 STI that said he was able to add autostart. If you're really interested, I could give him a call and maybe get you some info on how he did it. The catch is that I doubt the aftermarket alarm is setup to send the signal unless it is trying to start the car. But, since he was able to get around the clutch, he might have some input here.

an option is to take a stock key with the immobilizer chip in it and zip tie it up inside the steering column covers. This way the car receives the signal and you can use your other key. Commonly done on remote start systems on Fords for quite some time. Usually the best thing to do is to order a new factory key and zip tie that one up and away.

Granted, this is just an option. And your immobilizer capability is now rather useless.

ok this may sound retarded but how about having both keys on the same key chain? or cutting the key part of the impolizer and just have that on a key chain with the good looking key?!

Default another a/p install +?

or install the transponder portion of the key into a Universal Transponder box and wire it in a way where it requires a hidden button or switch to allow the vehicle's transponder system to recognize the key and allow you to start the vehicle.

I sacrificed my valet key to try something like this. There is a good amount of dead space in the remote keyfob, so I thought maybe I could just stick the chip in there since it would always be on the keychain anyway. Hacked open the valet key and pulled the chip out, but no joy, apparently having the chip in the keyfob is not good enough. Put the chip back in the key, taped it up and it worked again, so apparently I didn't damage the chip. I may experiment with it some more but for now I think we are stuck with the big ugly keys.

Not 100% sure but it sounds like the chip has to be in contact with the metal inside to lock! Thats why it works when its in the key because it sends the signal through the key. Maybe I am dead worng but its a thought. Does anyone know if the 04 Key comes apart? It looks like its two diffrent pieces with plastic in between.

I thought that could be the case before I broke open the key, but the chip is completely embedded in plastic, isolated from the metal. I do wonder if the key gets a slight bit of power from the ignition and acts as some kind of antenna to aid in detecting the chip. But I should probably shut up since I have no clue how these things work.
