Im pretty sure the X's are way to deep to fit directly in the factory replacement. if you use a serious spacer or are up for a fiberglassing project you can get them in there. IMO with a good sound deadening job to the car and an amp to run the speakers, the x serious is far more power than you'll ever use in the car. Id check into some more shallow mount speakers thatll fit the factory location and are known for clarity. Just my 2 cents. I worked car audio for a few years and have done several on my own vehicles and friends vehicles.

I think the Type R's are actually goin to be too deep also. I just did a little search on the depth of the door and it looks like your going to need a spacer for pretty much any speaker you put in the door due to how shallow they are. Your best bet is to search under speaker depth on this site and go talk to a local stereo shop for speaker ideas.

you should be able to use a spacer and get it to work. You will want an amplifier for the speakers and an aftermarket deck as well to power them and use them to their potential.

Lol its all good. Alright so to answer the question yes you will want an amplifier. If you plan on upgrading all 4 speakers you will want a 4 channel amplifier. Essentially one channel powers each speaker. Now a speaker has a Max (or peak) power rating in watts and it has an RMS power rating (continuous power). For instance the 6 and 1/2 inch Type R speakers have a max power rating of 300 watts and an RMS power rating of 100 watts (this is per each speaker). Now an amplifier is going to also have a Max power and RMS rating. You want to match up the RMS rating for the amplifier as close as you can to the RMS rating of the speaker. So since the Type R is 100 RMS you want an amplifier that supplies 100 RMS to each channel. If it is for 4 speakers than you want a 4 channel amp that supplies that 100 RMS rating to each channel. Note: it is ok for your amplifier to supply slightly more RMS power than your speaker is since the amplifier can be turned down.

The reason you need the amplifier is because your average aftermarket deck supplies 20 RMS to each of its 4 channels. And your average speaker is rated at at least 70 RMS. By under powering something by that much not only will you not get the desired volume, your speakers will distort (sound crappier) at lower volumes and you will actually wear out your speakers faster by doing so.

Hope that helps. Let me know if you need some more clarification.
