Default Loss of Car Beep Alarm

Just wondering if it is normal for that beep to stop working after pressing lock on the remote? I've had my 07 sti for about 6 months now. I noticed just the other day when i parked it in a parking lot and didnt hear the beep as i walked away pressing the lock button. I heard the locks actually locking the doors work. I thought it might have been perhaps i didnt close the door right but it wasn't that. Has anyone else experienced this or should i have it checked by my local dealership?

Before bringing it in, check to see if you accidently turned it off. If it still isn't there, bring it in. Common problem, a security module failure. Takes about 10-20 minutes to fix by the techs at the dealership.

I had it happen on my 05.

I don't have my remote in the office, but it seems like you just need to press and hold one or both of the buttons.

it just says: "car finder function; press [lock] 3 times within 5sec/panic start;press [lock] for 2sec/panic stop;press [lock] or [unlock]"

if i press it 3 times. i know it just honks the horn (thus enabling the car finder function), but no normal beeps

Look in your manual. The 06-07's keyfob doesn't have the instruction to turn on/off the chirp on the back of it. I remember on my 04 or 05 it did.

yes. check your manual. if it doesn't turn back on you have a bad security module chip. do a search on it, should be several threads about this issue. if that's the case bring it in, tell them you read the manual and all that and it still doesn't work. it should save you some time because they'll try to make it look like you turned it off.

they should know about it by now.

oo ok...so your saying its a function of which i may have disabled accidentally somehow? but that it can be enabled back on through some instruction in the manual? if so, i'd be glad to hear that that is the case rather than a flaw or something of the sort needing attention

Yeah, I remember trying to turn off the beep on my 06 and the instruction wasn't there.

I remember doing it on my 05 because I had the same issue as the op.

Yeah, hopefully you turned it off by accident. BTW, I might be wrong on the security module chip, it might be actually the beeper itself located next to the horn.

BTW, I found a thread for you.

Chaulk another one up for the random beep/no beep alarm mystery.

Yeah, I haven't really heard about 06-07's having this issue. Hopefully you turned it off by accident.

True. Regardless, I will look into the manual, find these instructions, and try to turn it back on. Personally for me, I need it on as a comfort of security. When it first happened, i made like a triple-time head turn thinking "wtf?!" Just hope it has nothing to do with any mods or whatever then get screwed by the dealership if it comes to having to go there.
