IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2007 Trader Rating: (1) | hey guys, I am considering install a clifford 50.5x alarm with remote start in my 2005 STi. After a few searches, I found that by using the DEI 556U I can bypass the immobilizer key and have the remote start work in 05+ STi. Since DEI official web site said the 556U will allow me to keep the immobilizer functional at all time unless I use the remote start. But I don't quite understand how it works... I mean when you leave your spare key in your car, you already let the immobilizer function disabled. So how does that unit (556U) suppose to work only during the remote start? Or isn't actually the fact is I will lose the immobilizer function forever?... Thanks for helping This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2006 Trader Rating: (0) | it powers up a relay only when the remote start is activated. yes the key is still "in" the car but its in a little box and the 556u (which uses a circular wire that fits around the key cylinder) will not "power up" the key cylinder loop until the remstart is activated. |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2007 Trader Rating: (1) | Oh, I see So is more like if I didn't start my car with my chipped main key, the system will still work because the 556U disable the spare key inside the box? How I get it right ![]() Thanks for the help |

| Junior STI Driver | The key sits in the bypass which you bury in the dash somewhere that cannot be accessed easily. Then there is a signal wire that goes from the bypass to the imobilizor sensor on the ignition. When the remote start is activated it gives the 556u power and tricks the imobilizer into thinking there is a key in the ignition. Once the car is started, you will have to put your key in the ignition or the alarm will kill the engine. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
