Question Dvd in dash/gps unit legal issue question

I was wondering if it's illegal to bypass the parking brake sensor? In other words, is it legal to have a movie or image playing while driving?

*I know I'm going to get flamed*

the ironic part is you can sit there and be looking at the GPS going...... if there's only one person in the car, isn't that just as bad as watching a movie???

yes, it is illegal in my state to have a video within sight of the driver.

that said, the parking brake bypass allows a lot more functions than playing video while moving, like making small adjustments to the nav.

...and just about every unit sold has a simple and easy way of turning this feature off...

my installer did the bypass without me even asking...

its nice to have the bypass ESP if your passenger wants to watch something while you drive, we did the bypass to my aunts DVD and nav system... My cousin loves me for it since he doesn't exactly fit in the back seat. LOL

Illegal in RI and a $1000 fine if caught with a bypass.

yup, it's illegal in my state too ... I have the Pioneer 7inch in dash dvd, my simple solution was to run a switch inline with the parking brake wire from the unit to ground. Very simple modification and I get all my features of both navi and movie watching

OP: The legality varies from state to state. Some states it is illegal, others there is no law on the books yet. Since you did not tell us where you reside we can't really say for sure. Is is still not the best idea, and is sure to raise some eyebrows anywhere you go....

if you do bypass it, hope you live in a state where tinted windows arent frowned upon... I use mine for my daughter and my windows are tinted and i never have any problems, if i were to get pulled over i would just hit the navi button anyways or turn on the radio instead..

illegal in all states if its in front of the driver and pass seats. only rear ok. bypassing it is your call as long as you dont get caught. i have mine bypass for my passenger and to mess with the navi. i didnt connect it to the e-brake. No Company is allowed to do this and if they do and get caught there shop and lic is revoke. so sweettaking to cartoys..etc wont help unless its under the table work.
