IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (1) | hi everyone, this is my first post here at iwsti ![]() i've had my '07 STI (cobb ots stg1 map as of last weekend, looking at going for a cobb tbe and protune in the near future) for just over a year now and have hesitated to put my stereo system into it for fear of possible alternator trouble and the performance hit the car might take from running the additional components. Wondering if my thoughts are unfounded, or if anyone has noticed any issues after installing systems with multiple amps and subs. Although i do love my music and miss my system, i would rather cut down on the components or altogether if my "butt dyno" would suffer ![]() As is stands right now i have the following to be re-installed into my subi: Alpine IVA-D310 HU Alpine Sirius Sat-Radio addon module Alpine V12 DC-Straight 4x100 amp (for interior speakers) Phoenix Gold XS2500 amp (bridged for sub) Alpine R12 12" Subwoofer in sealed enclosure Rockford Fosgate 1 farad capacitor Phoenix Gold eq215i 15band EQ Phoenix Gold PLD1 pro line driver interior speakers - TBD, been looking at polks and mb quart for front & back This all came out of a '94 3000GT SL and honestly that car was such a dog that I'm not sure i felt any difference either way; although i DID go through 1 alternator and add the capacitor to stop the lights from dimming when sitting at stoplights with the volume up o_O I'm also on the lookout for a new stereo shop since my my local place has gone out of business, has anyone in the chicago area have any experiences with ABC Automotive Electronics in Elk Grove IL? Whatever you have left is what is usable amperage, but there needs to be a bit of a safety in there. (In other words if you have a 100 AMP alternator and have a draw of 50, you may only be able to add 25 AMPs worth of additional draw with 25 leftover. Just an example, not sure of the numbers.) Then you'll need to figure out what the draw of the new stereo stuff will be. Best bet is to talk with a stereo shop, they'll have a much better idea of peak draws for the equipment. For a 1000W amp, you are looking at 10 AMPs. Ina nutshell, you will have to be very careful about trying to run too much off your alternator or risk frying it. They make high-output versions, but I have not researched them for the STi's. |

| Spec C Club | well i have an eclipse AVN-5500 and an alpine amp with a 10" memphis and absolutely no noise coming through the speakers what so ever, even installed everything myself and i know its not as much as you have but i dont think you should have a problem unless you run so much it sucks power off the alternator...just my .02 |

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2007 Trader Rating: (1) | got everything installed a couple weeks ago, and i ended up throwin a kinetic cap killer power cell to buffer between the amps and the rest of the electrical system. damn glad i did too, sitting at idle with the volume way up i don't get any dimming at all. the butt dyno registers no difference in acceleration either which was my other big concern, hehe..
