I threaded my wiring for my gauge senders and my stereo THROUGH a hole in the firewall close to the brake and clutch pedal. There is a rubber grommet on the engine side and a perforate circle of insulation on the cabin side. Just look below the brake master cylinder and you'll see it.

The grommet up underneath the brake booster would probably be ideal. There's another one behind the brake pedal but when using that one it's easy to get the wires tangled in the pedals.

I melted a hole through the rubber gromit and ran the wire. Works well, and keeps out the moisture.
