Just make sure you get all the metal off the magnetic plug and drain both plugs.. and that's it.

Just used 75W140 Motul gear oil and did my rear differential last night and will be doing the transmission tomorrow. Apparently this is good for front and rear differentials.

NO, that is NOT it.

There is a doughnut shaped magnet stuck to the oil pickup under the tranny pan.

I would recommend removing the pan and cleaning the magnet with each change.

I'd also take a look at the screen in the pickup and make sure it is free of debris.

Use suby silicon sealant or RTV gasket maker to seal the pan back up after you clean the old gasket off.

If Subaru intended for you to remove the pan with every change then why is there a plug in it?

They also tell you not to race your car and to change your oil with dino oil every 3750+ miles...

But, be lazy. It's your car.

Me, I'll spend the extra 10 minutes and make sure my car is cared for properly.

^Amen, if its messy already. Who cares if 10 more minutes of mess will get some shavings out. They add up.

^^Yeah, I started that thread. I was going to remove the pan but I decided not to after spending 15 minutes trying without success. I probably should of wacked it with a mallet but I was hesitant to mess anything up. I bolted everything back up and filled the tranny with conventional valvoline 75w-90, so far so good (feels pretty much the same as before).

For those that want to see the magnet under the pan.......check this thread out. Great pics!

Do you have to remove the pickup (thing that the giant magnet is stuck to) to inspect the screen or can you view the screen from the hole to the right of the magnet without removing anything? Do you know the torque spec on the bolts for the pickup?

Also what is your method for removing/breaking the silicon seal between the pan and transmission? I tried using a razor blade and spackling putty knife and it didn't seem possible with those tools.

For those of you who don't know, the 07's do not have the magnet in the oil pan.
