Default EBay TMIC install problem!!!!

Ok I just got my TMIC in the mail today. I got my stock TMIC out and put this one in and it looks like it doesn't even fit. The left side is the biggest problem. It's about 1 inch off. Do I have to modify something????

Well that would make sense if it needed a different bracket because this thing is off pretty far on the passenger side. I can get the drivers side to fit in ok but there is no way the left side is going to mount to the stock bracket.

If they are supposed to come with a different bracket, anyone know where I can get one??

I bought the tmic from a private seller. It's just a generic one.

Here is the auction for it:

dude he said he put it on his friends WRX, i am pretty sure that the TMIC varies slightly on the sti from the wrx! that could explain why it is off

STi throttle body is longer/thicker because of the electronic throttle. just make some brackets out of garage door hanging metal or get fancy and find someone to bend you some aluminum and drill some holes.

Well after looking at other TMICs like Perrin and APS, it looks like the left side mount on my TMIC itself is way off.

Here is a pic of the left side mount:

Now here is a pic of a Perrin TMIC:

If you look closely at the Perrin unit, the mount is flush with the bottom of the TMIC and slightly towards the front. Now if you notice that on mine, the mount is dead center and about 1 inch below the bottom of the TMIC.

I'm thinking about cutting off the mount and having it re-welded. What do you guys think??

i wouldn't do a makeshift bracket unless you can make it sturdy and look semipresentable. i've seen too many ghetto rigged ebay tmic.

Myself, i would definitely weld a properly situated bracket.

I'm not going to be doing it myself. I was thinking about taking it to a fabricator and having the original bracket removed and the weld ground down. Then having a bracket welded in the correct place. As far as making it look presentable I'm pretty good at polishing metal. I polished my shifter trim and it looks like it came that way. I'm not looking just to make it functional, I want it to look like it's supposed to be there.

I see what you're saying about making a new bracket. I would have less of a chance of screwing up the TMIC itself, but my idea just seemed the easier of the two.

yeah man that would be a good idea to get it plasma'd off but make sure it's someone you know does good work, b/c you don't want them cutting into the actual cooling part of the IC. but it would be easy to cut that off and move it, reweld it in the right place. good luck

well that sucks...i would suggest getting it redone to fit properly..but dont plasma it off..that would melt have the intercooler lol...most people will just take a ban saw and cut off then grind it smooth, or you can just to home depot buy some stock, cut it to length drill some holes and make an extension of sorts to hold it in there good
