Default DIY: Hella S'Tone Install w/ LightWerkz Harness

Please note that the harness used in this guide is a pre-production model. Actual shipped harnesses will vary slightly.

Needs:
1x LightWerkz harness
1x Hella SuperTones kit (2 Horns and Relay)
2x 1/4-20 or Metric Equivalent Bolt, about 3/4" long.
2x Nuts for above said bolts
2x Flat washers for above said bolts (Optional)
2x Lock washers for above said bolts (Optional)
1x 15A ATO Fuse
Electrical Tape

This should be a 10 minute install.

1. This is what the harness looks like.

In this pic, youve got the relay socket, Power and ground. When you get the harness, you will need to plug your Hella relay into the socket.

In this pic, youve got the trigger connector (bare male), the connector for the stock horn (bare female w/ 2 wires), and the connectors for the S'tones powers.

2. Hook up power...

...and then ground to a convenient bolt.

FInd a spot to hide the relay. You can see where I hide all my relays in this pic.

3. Plug the ground wire into the silver prong. Put the bolt through the ring, then the S'tone bracket.

4. Feed the harness under the core support. There is a nice space at the end of the radiator (on the drivers side) to pass it through.

5. Plug in the Power (It will be a female terminal with blue heat shrink over it, marked with a yellow zip tie). THis plugs into a copper terminal on the S'tone.

6. Mount it up.

Note: You will not have the ground on the outside of the core support. This is for my James Bond style garage door opener.

7. This shows the connections.

8. Plug in the trigger into the stock horn wire, and tape it up. Plug the female terminal into the stock horn. (Or tape it up if you dont want to use your stock horns, or in my case, used your stock horns to replace the broken one on your mom's Protege)

9. Put the 15A fuse into the holder.

Zing.

Note: These harnesses were designed to use the relay provided with the horns. Hella decided to use a non-standard pin position, so if you try to plug a different relay in there, you wont get correct function. If you dont have the hella relay, please specify so when you order your harness.

Here's what the actual harness looks like.

With the stock horn wires, youre not getting full voltage. The stock horn circuit includes a relay, a switch, among other things, all of which adds resistance. Also, the stock system uses 18-22AWG wiring. This means you arent getting full potential out of the horns.

The relay allows you go go around the stock horn and relay, and use larger wiring to reduce resistance.

With that said, Ive since plugged my S'tones into my stock horn wires. Buttttt...my LightWerkz S'tones harness is now powering an air compressor..which blows 3 trumpets worth of pedestrian scaring sound.

Thanks for the DIY. I ordered and got the harness after seeing this and I'm probably going to install the supertones next week.

If LightWerkzs wants to make a new thread with photos, thats up to him. I am no longer affiliated with LightWerkzs and unfortunately many photo got lost when I transfered my photobuckets.
