For the rear coilovers, you don't need the OEM conical washer (there isn't one there in the stock assembly).

If you do this setup be warned that it will be noisier than the stock suspension. My understanding is that most coilovers are noiser than stock.

Here are the noises I have with this configuration.
Front - only sound is a coil bind sound I get during slow turning. Going a couple miles an hour turn the wheel...."sproing"...turn the wheel some more..."sproing"...

The back is the noisiest though....I've had the back seat out the last 2 weeks so that has exagerated the noise. Mostly it is a "clunk" noise you hear going over bumps...After I made adjustments and had it aligned I put some Dynamat in and some silencer pad I had leftover from a laminate floor work I was doing at home. Then put the back seat back in. It definitely helped.

But I can still hear the "clunk"....just not as loud.

UPDATE: The rear seems much, much quieter now to me.

I finally took a look at the springs with my son turning the wheel for me. It is indeed the helper spring trying to sit still while the main spring turns....then "SPROING" the helper spring rotates. Myles had suggested disassemly of the coilovers and greasing contact points. Instead, I decided to jack the front up an lower the adustment collar to allow the springs to decompress. At the full end of the adjustment range I was able to easily grease the contact points, especially on both ends of the helper spring. It appears to be working but I have not driven the car yet so should know for sure tomorrow. Oh yeah, be sure to measure the number of threads on the coilover so you'll know where to return the adjustment collar when done.

I'll update the directions above to include greasing contact points before installation.

I keep buying crappy coilovers man, i just sold my set of the BC Racing, although they were okay, theyre nothing compared to these RCEs... these are for sure my next set of coilovers.
Quick question for you though bro, are u able to go lower than the above mentioned ride height ? Are there any adjustment screws sticking out from the bottom like the STANCE coilovers that might rub against the fron CV boot or anything like that ?

You can go lower but I'm running 245's on 9 inch wide rims and I'll rub in the back over big bumps at speed. Until I put more negative camber in the back I'm running 14" front and 13 3/4" rear.

Now ive got another question, maybe this has been answered a long time ago, but when you usually have helper springs, doesnt that make the setup more progressive rather than linear ? And im also kinda worried about the spring popping noises due to the helper springs.

I used to have Tein Flexes that would pop due to the spring not seating sometimes and it would get real annoying. Im on the edge about purchasing these and im pretty sure these are at a higher quality level than the Teins, so im probably being too paranoid..haha

Most folks don't have, or don't admit to having, the coil bind problem I have. It is likely due to my setup with the Whiteline camber plates...but not sure. By the way, After I greased everything it was very quiet....2 days later guess what....."Sproing!!"

14 in front and 13.5 rear will not work with 245 45 on stock 06 BBS. will rub on dips with DD settings. i suppose if you use track settings they may not rub

Yup....I rubbed at that setting with my 05. Been running 13 7/8 in the rear without rubbing though...

Good write-up!

Our more general assembly instructions are here:
http://filebox.vt.edu/users/sekellic...20RCE%20T2.doc

http://filebox.vt.edu/users/sekellic...20PART%202.doc

One thing to note....when not using Whiteline camber plates, you MUST reuse the OEM silver conical washer up front. Whiteline provides their own washer, but otherwise, reuse that OEM silver conical washer! Pics of that piece are in our instructions, as well as the part number if you don't feel like disassembling your stock struts and just want to order them from your local Subaru dealer.

I've been running the T2's with 275 R-comps at the autox and having a blast. Want to check the top strut nut torque today but I didn't put in the instructions. I tried the links above and they didn't work. Anyone know what the torque should be for the coilover top nut?

Update. Apparently I installed my fronts on the wrong side!! They were mis-labeled from the factory. How to Install RCE Tarmac 2 Coilovers w/WL front and Cusco rear Camber Plates The reservoirs go to the back, not the front. This will make the brake line less contorted. I'll eventually fix this but I just found out my n00b error yesterday....

Thanks for the great write up. I've done several of these on other forums, and know they take a while to put together. Nice work, that's not the easiest to do on your own. Nice to have a second set of hands.

Ran 2 days at VIR w/ these.

T2's - WL front plates/Cusco rear
Hotchkiss sways
500/400 (380?) springs

Set them per recomendations

-2.5/-1.5ish
For some reason had rear toe out

I like so far -i could control the car a bunch of ways

I need rear tires for the track now. I think I could sell a few sets of brakes while waiting for the car to get around T1 at VIR.
