How Much Oil To Add in 04' sti?

it seems that the oil perameters for the sti 04' on the high end is 4.8 quarts. i added 5 quarts. is that too much and will it hurt my engine? a little advice would help. Thanks!

Dude that is WAY too much!

Not sure if it's the same for the 04' but the 05' manual calls for 4.2 qts. with filter change. You need to drain some out NOW!

4.2 was a typo if i can recall.. it's 4.8

i did my oil change a few days ago..it was right around 4.8.

it is 4.8 not 4.2. add 4 and see where your oil level is. you will be nearly a quart low.

thanks for the replies guys,

after checking the oil (under optimal conditions, engine cool) the oil level is just a bit over the full indicator. again, with the oil specs at 4.8 is 5 too much? or am i okay? this is my first oil change on my sti, very proud of that fact, but needed to know if i am okay with the amount of oil used. thanks again guys.

unless its a huge amount over the full mark its fine. if its an 1/8" above leave it. 1/4" above, pull the filter, drain it and reinstall. that should bring it close.

There is good info. here! My '07 owners manual still calls for 4.2 qts. I wonder why Subaru hasn't changed this. Maybe they sell more engines?

I've been putting 5 qts in ever since i started doing oil changes.

5 liters isnt too much >.>

keep in mind that if he did infact replace the filter, its not completely full until eh started the engine, so even though it may look like he put in more and overfilled it, he didnt.

5.0 is fine ^^

i usually fill about 4 qts in the filler tube and about .2quarts into the filter and it usually gets to the full mark.
