Default Install Guide: ZERO/SPORTS Formula Pushbutton Starter Kit

Hello everybody!

Here at EDO Performance, we decided it was a good idea to show everyone how east it is to install some of our products.

So here for you today we have the first of many in a line of installation guides!

This one in particular is for the ZERO/SPORTS Formula Pushbutton Starter Kit. It turned out to be a very simple install that anyone could do themselves.

The Zero/Sports Formula Push Button Starter kit allows you to give your car that Formula-1 racing feel! The kit includes everything you need to install the starter button in your car.
Unlike some button starter kits, this kit requires NO soldering or splicing and simply plugs in between the factory wiring harness. For security, you will still need to have your key in the ignition before the car can be started with the button.

1. First of, like with any electrical install, you must remove power. This can be done by simply removing the negative battery cable.

2. Next, remove the philips screw underneath steering column cover. With a little moving, the lower half will pop off.

3. Remove 3 screws around lower dash panel. After these are out the panel will come out with a little tug (it is held in by a few pop-clips across the top).

4. Underneath and on the right side of the column you will see a 4-pin plug coming away from the ignition lock. On this 2002 WRX this plug was blue but it may be a different color on later years.

5. Unplug this connector and plug the Zero/Sports harness in between it.

6. Next you need to find a ground for the black wire coming off the harness box, I used the mounting bolt for the brake pedal above the firewall pass-through.

7. Mount the harness box somewhere under the dash. I just zip-tied the it to another box under the dash but it can be mounted anywhere you wish.

8. Connect the plug from the harness box the ignition harness.

9. Remove one of the blank switch plates from the dash panel and put the starter button in its place.

10. Connect the plug from the back of the button to the remaining plug from the harness box and reattach the lower dash panel.

11. Reattach the lower steering column cover.

12. Push the button and enjoy!

If you would like to request an install guide for any of the other products we carry please fee free to contact us!

i don't get it. what is the point?

instead on inserting the key and turning it to start you have to insert the key, turn it to on and them press a button on the other side of the steering wheel?
