Default vortex generator installation

alright here it is

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SUBAR...16954856QQrdZ1

the paint is an exact match my 2004 black STI.

is there a 'proper' way to install this, since the last one i put on flew off after about a month of it being on, and i put LOADS of super heavy duty double sided tape.

If you look closely, the little 'teeth' on the ends of the vortex generator (VG) should i cut them off? if anyone has got one on, or helped put one on, do u remember if those were on?

any help would be appreciated...
cheers,
Alex

On the listing, it reads the color as "metallic black pearl." Our 04 Stis came with JAVA BLACK Pearl. Hope it was a typo on his part!

Clean very well all surfaces, use quality doublesided tape, and heat up both surfaces before apply, and hold till it cools. Mine has been on for maybe 3 months now and seems okay.

I just got it, the color name doesn't really matter, it is however an exact match as java black... :-)

i'll clean all surfaces, and get the scotch super heavy duty double sided tape (meant for outdoors) and put a bunch of it on.

It also came with some silicone glue this time, should i put that on the car side of the double sided tape, or the vortex side? or both???

cheers!

i wouldn't recommend using silicone glue on there as it will hurt your paint and maybe rip your paint off if you decide to remove it. Just use a real heavy duty double sided adhesive and prep both the roof and and generator by wiping it with alcohol for better adhesion contact. Heat both parts with a blow dryer before sticking together, and then install it and hold it in place for a bit.

alright, so i've primed it and put the double sided tape with this special plastic adhesive to put in between (it's the kind that has 2 tubes and u have to mix it - i tried it on a small piece to see if it sticky, and once put in between, you can not split the two pieces!!)

tomorrow i'm going to install it on the car and hold it in place for a bit, and fingers crossed, it'll stay on!!

thanks for some good tips guys!

I still don't understand why you're sticking two pieces of double sided tape together, thats not what It's designed for. If there are issues with it contacting your roof in certain areas buy a thicker grade of tape and use it in those areas.

Well if you can find me a 7-9mm double sided tape that is super heavy duty, water proof, not spongy/foam, and can withstand 130mph winds and lift, then let me know, but i'm telling you, it just won't work with one layer.

When/if you get one it might make more sense.

I thought about the vGen.. even thou i like it the way it looks on the evo, its one of the few things i like about the evo. I thought it would be a disgrace to take that from the Evo and put it on my car... Out of pride i decided not to do it, but as people say on this forum... Its your car...
