Yeah, that's the one that I brought over, but I haven't used it on my Subie yet.

With the coilovers my jack won't slide under the front...solution is simply to drive the front up on a couple pieces of 2" X 8" wood board.... 2 foot long each should be fine.

i know that. that's what i do (and most people, i'm sure...). or ramps and then a jack, but if i could find a jack that's long/low enough, it would save a step...

In order to get every lowered Scoobie on my hoist (and even a coilover equipped BMW 330i) that's ^ what I use. Works quite well. Jack leg part number 28 Pine #2.

Go to the hyjacks website for a history of jacks and the current status of the various manufacturers.

A friend of mine that I trust was searching for a high quality jack recently. After investigation he reported to me that every commonly available lightweight aluminum jack had poor overall feedback from users with many users reporting failure after minimal use. I did not investigate lightweight AL jacks myself.

A long time professional mechanic and friend recommended the US made Walker / Lincoln / Marquette / Hein Warner 2 ton jack model number LNC-W93642. It’s not cheap. I don't remember if this is the cheapest price that I found, but alltiresupply sells it for $195 + ship. The 93642 jack can be rebuilt for a reasonable cost.

A reconditioned version is available at phjjacks for $150 + shipping.

jackxchange reports that Blackhawk markets a foreign made version of this jack via model number BH6020. I think other Shin Fu subsidiaries are selling versions of the Hein Warner 2 ton 93642 jack as well.

I was considering the Craftsman 4-Ton, Low-Profile, High-Lift Floor Jack with Fast Lift Sears item #00950167000 Mfr. model #T84004 until I discovered that it is the same as the Torin Big Red Fast Lift Jack — 4 Ton, Model# T84004 ($50 less at Northern Tool).

In the 1980's Sears sold a re-branded Japanese made Astro 1.5 ton service jack (model 328.12001) my dad bought one and within a year my friend bought a second one. Both jacks failed this year - over twenty years later. Neither had been rebuilt ever.

I replaced my Sear/Astro jack with an Astro 200 LP because of my positive experience with the Sears/Astro jack and because it has an extremely low minium height of 2-3/4". My STI is lowered with aproximately 4.75" of ground clearance with fully inflated tires and obviously less with a flat.

I purchased the Astro 200 LP jack from joneswholesaleonline via Amazon marketplace for $159 including shipping. I’m pretty sure the Astro 200 LP jack is the same jack as the American Forge & Foundry 200T Low Profile jack without a rubber cradle pad and with a different paint job.

The Astro jack is not currently listed for that price so I probably would consider the Blackhawk BH6020 from Northern Tool. Last time I checked this jack was $160. Northern Tool frequently has specials where shipping is free or you can arrange to pick up the item at a nearby store for free.

Northern Tool is currently ending a free shipping promotion today 7-16 - Use keycode 101916.

Good luck.

Harbor Freight aluminum racing jack FTW

I picked one up before I moved and am unpacking it next week, I'm excited to try it out.

This is what I'm going to get. It's only around $100, light weight, and can go under the front of a dropped STi no problem.

Update: I got one of the HF racing jacks for around $78!! It is light, very well built from what I can see and it works great! It slides under the lowered front end of the STi no problemo!

do you have a link to the one you got?

I'm planning on picking one of these up. I'm not sure which one though. The only real differences between the two that I'm looking at are about $45 and one can lift an extra 3.5" I figure I can put a 4X4 block on the jack to get a little extra room if I need it, but it will still be way short of the ~23" max height of most jacks I've used. so I guess my main question is does it lift high enough for ya?

I used it this last weekend. Worked great for rotating the tires. The jack is light enough to just snatch up and carry around to the front of the car... Link: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91039

I have the same jack in a different package. Got it at costco. I am not overly impressed with it. It works, but I won't say much more for it. CostCo has another one that I want to try.

what exactly dont you like about it? is it unstable or does it just not lift as fast as you'd like?

It lifts ok, but it tends to bleed down a little bit and it is almost impossible to lower a load slowly.
