tryin to do this now.. that lower strut bolt is impossible. even my impact gun wont get it loose. im letting some penetrating spray sit there for now...

this thread is a lot of help so far

2004 STi

everything went FLAWLESS! well ... except those 2 bolts i snapped off from the tophat haha, they were easily replaced.

Thanks for the great write-up. The breaker bar really works. You really have to pry hard then you'll here a BANG. That means the bolt came looooooose!

Just installed my Cobb Sport Springs on my 2008 STI.
Getting a thump from the right front end when going over the bumps.
I guess the top of the strut is hiiting the body .
Is there a special(correct)way to allign the top hats or top of the strut, with the bottom of the strut.
Any input would be great.

you prob didnt tighten that top bolt enough.. that happened to me with my rears. i just torqued em down some more and that fixed the problem.

I just installed Cobb Sport Springs on my 2004. Did you figure out the problem?

Yes.Upper strut perches did no line up with the bottom of the strut.
The highest part of the top perch must be facing towards the wheel,otherwise it will be hitting the body of the car.

For what it's worth, I called SPX Kent-Moore about the Subaru strut mount socket ( Subaru Service Tools - Part Details ) and they want $357 for it.

I'll find another way.
