ok to have car up on 4 jack stands for long period of time like a month or so? all 4 stands are at pinch weld locations.... pinch welds are bend but still should be ok for support correct?

As described by Rantar_STi:

To visualize where to place the jack stand look at the first picture of this thread showing the jack stand right under the pinch weld. If that jack was rotated 90 degrees and moved towards the inside of the car (i.e. towards the drive shaft) such that it would be located immediately behind (inboard of) the pinch weld (about 1/8") and immediately below the raised area of the floor panel, that would be the correct place to put the stand (and centered on the raised area of the floor panel).

I agree with this 100%, as well as the originally described jacking points. The floor just inboard of the pinch welds is shaped to accept jack-stands. I am always putting my car on stands to change to track wheels and brakes. I use a soft thin piece of wood in the jack pan.

I just put an STi up on those little slits by the sideskirt, thinking "hey my Evo uses this for a jack stand point why not" and as soon as I lowered the car down onto the stand, the whole thing just bent. I have no idea why that would happen, or why so many of you say its a good place to put stands. Is there something totally odd with the car I was with or what, because thats not safe.

ding ding ding, we have a winner.

This area is reinfored and the correct place to put stands if you don't want to bend anything. You also can't compare a lift to jack stands. A lift does not bend the pinch welded area because it distributes the weight over a larger area and raises the car evenly. A typical lift arm is 4-6 inches wide in comparison to a 1 inch wide jack stand.

Also forgot to add, the stock jack does not use the location the stands are using in the picture. There is a slit in the stock jack which guides you into the correct area. 100% of the weight is supported behind that seam in the reinforced area. There are two marks on the seam, between them is where you place the stock jack to line up with the support.

can we get a pic of this?

and bump for m3jedi77's question...

If the pinch welds are bent to hell, does it really matter? They can still support the car, right? (Sorry, this is just me thinking outloud...)

Nice write up. Regarding the picture showing the jack on the rear diff:

I would recommend sliding the jack further under the car so that the saddle isn't under the rear cover- so its footprint is only on the case of rear diff. Not that I've ever seen it be a problem, but if the cover wasn't flush at the bottom you could stress the cover bolts & cover. Not required but good practice to avoid ANY issues, I guess.
