| Professional STI Racer Feedback Score: 0 reviews | I don't use that part anymore cause i bent the round part around the bolt and my car would squeek and vibrate like hell at high speed. It was a PITA to unbend it, which i did, and fixed my problem Quote:

| S204 Racer Feedback Score: 21 reviews | What sooo horrible about bent up pinch welds? I use em to jack the car up and put stands under the subframe (front), then use the rear diff to jack and stands under the rear pinch welds. But yeah, my front pinch welds are kinda bent up.. heh |

| Professional STI Driver Feedback Score: 0 reviews | Some people hammer the welds down anyway right? I am only afraid of it bending once the car is up. If it bends on it's way up, no problem. Personally, the subframe looks sturdier - my jackstands also don't have a space for a weld like that, it's either something rounded or flat. It looks like there is too much room for movement. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2006 | Check out what the rally guys are doing, very clever! http://jcmotophoto.smugmug.com/galle...181012660-L-LB They use a large floor jack to get the ends up and then insert these triangle stands into the side-sill area (one end at a time). They have the car up and wheels off before the drivers even get out! Some of the stands even have little trays for the lugs or ???, very good idea that I will puy to use on my car soon. I need to get better look to see how they did it and what they had to do to reinforce it. My guess is that they just bored a hole and welded in a tube for the stands to slide into. BTW, no offense, but this isnt my favorite 'jacking' site.... |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2007 | I did quite a bit of investigation and analysis prior to jacking up my car and putting it on jack stands. For those looking for a good jack, I used a Zinko jack (ZSJ-20S-2) with a Prothane jack pad and Prothane jack stand pads to prevent marring up anything under the car. The jack is made in Japan and is very sturdy. Definitely worth it albeit almost 100 lbs. Now back to the topic at hand. I am not convinced that the pinch welds are the proper place to put a jack stand. If you take a close look at the stock jack, there is a cutout to accommodate the pinch weld. On either side of the cutout there are flat sections; one sitstowards the inside of the car and the other towards the outside of the car. The pinch weld does not rest on the bottom of the cutout and the flat part of the jack that faces the outside is slightly lower than the inside and never contacts the body of the car. Instead, there is a raised section (raised towards the ground) of the floor pannel directly behind the pinch welds. That is where the stock jack sits. This section appears to be reinforced and I have never had any deformation of the metal in that section. To visualize where to place the jack stand look at the first picture of this thread showing the jack stand right under the pinch weld. If that jack was rotated 90 degrees and moved towards the inside of the car (i.e. towards the drive shaft) such that it would be located immediately behind the pinch weld (about 1/8") and immediately below the raised area of the floor pannel, that would be the correct place to put the stand (and centered on the raised area of the floor pannel). The Subaru recommended jacking points are the rear differential and the front jacking plate under the engine as mentioned by others. |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2006 | I've never done a mod that required my sti to be jacked up for any long period of time... but on my acura, I always just put my jackstands just inside of the pinch welds, parallel to the weld.. and that always worked fine... would that be ok for our imprezas as well?? (MY05, btw) |

IWSTI Addict since: Mar 2006 | Yes the original pictures of the jack stands being perpendicular to the pinch weld is just goofy. Just turn the stand 90 degrees and place it inside of the pinch weld. If you look under the car the area inside of the pinch weld is slotted and the top of a jack stand fits in there perfect. |
