Default Post APS High Flow Cat Install Problem-Anyone with a APS HFC installed please advise

I wrapped my down pipe and put in my APS high flow cat yesterday in preparation for soloIIs coming up in a couple weeks. I couldnt find any sort of resource instructing on the correct orientation of the cat so i had to use trial and error. After that, the exhaust bolted back together relatively easily.

Today, after driving, i noticed that the tail pipe outlet was pushed against the left side of the cutout on the bumper and had barely melted a small section of the cutout on the bumper. I adjusted the tab on the down pipe so the bolt is as far away from the pipe as possible in an attempt to center the outlet. This only barely moved the outlet slightly away from the cutout. It's still no where near centered.

I had the exhaust installed for nearly a year with the test pipe installed with no problems what so ever. i bought the cat slightly used from a member and i'm hoping there weren't different versions. Are there? I know aps has a different looking cat out now but i assume it just looks different and will fit any r1 exhaust.

I'm thinking maybe the cat is oriented incorrectly but i want to verify i'm not missing something simple before i pull the exhaust again. A pic or even a description of the cat installed correctly would be greatly appreciated!!!

That's about as good as it gets from the pics I took when I installed my APS exhaust. If I remember correctly with the 3 bolt flange on both sides of the cat and they way they are orients there really are only a few ways it can go to begin with and only 1 real way to do it where it will clear everything.

The muffler to midpipe flange has larger holes so you can move them around a bit for fitment. Loosen the bolts a bit and try to align it a bit better. You might also want to look at Kartboy extended length exhaust hangers to keep the exhaust away from the bumper more.

thanks a million for posting the pics! i just looked and the cat is oriented correctly.

i will have to loosen the midpipe bolts and see if i can get it centered tonight. do you have the kartboy extended hangers? i thought about getting them when i got the exhaust because it was difficult to get the exhaust on the hangers when originally installed.

The Kartboy hangers are a PITA to install but your exhaust will NOT move at all once they are on.

I'm using the stock hangers with mine. I started to replace the stockers with Kartboy standard length hangers but got lazy and gave up.

I haven't had any problem but my exhaust pipe is close to the bumper, however no burning. I could easily see removing the racepipe and installing the cat pipe would shift things just enough to move the tail pipe and cause it to burn the bumper. That's why there is the larger room for movement with the muffler/midpipe flange to hopefully give you enough play to move things so they don't touch/burn. Hopefully it's an easy fix for you.

My APS TBE with high flow cat fits perfectly. I used it for over a year with the stock hangers and then switched to Kartboy standard length hangers. Try playing with it a little and you should be able to get it to fit fine.
